To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MICHAEL 'MCGANN, citizen of the United States, and resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Legs or Supports for Tables, of which the following.

This invention has reference to that class of tables adapted for supporting powerdriven sewing Or other machines and which are adapted to be firmlysupported upon the floor with the table proper or table top in level position. These tables are of var ing lengths according to the number of machines they are intended to carry, etc, and are provided with legs or supports which vary in number according to the length of the table, the number and weight of the machines intended to be carried by the table, etc.

The object of my invention is to provide an improved leg or support for tables of this character that will be cheap and simple in construction; capable of all adjustments necessary to adapt it to any unevenness or irregularities in the floor while maintaining the supported table in level position; and also capable of all adjustments necessary for maintaining a supported power shaft in proper alincment and at any desired position relatively to the table or floor. This object I attain by means of the novel features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter set forth in detail and pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring now to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a leg or support embodying by invention, with a supported table and power-shaft in cross-section. Fig 2 is an end elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a section through line 33 of Fig. 1.

Similar reference characters designate like parts in the several figures of the drawings.

A leg or support embodying my invention will preferably comprise a-ta-ble bracket for the support of-the table proper, two legs connected with said table bracket adjacent to its opposite ends and each having an independent adjustment in a vertical direction relatively to said table bracket, and a cross-head brace adjustably connected wit-h the legs between their upper and lower ends in a manner to permlt of a vertical adjustment of the cross-head brace on sa1d legs and also of an independent adjustment of the legs relatively thereto. r

The table bracket, indicated at 2, may be of any desired form in surface contour to meet the requirements of the particular type of table which it is intended to support, the said bracket in the present instance shown being formed with a depressed central portion to support a sewing machine table 6 of the central trough type. This table bracket is formed with a tubular socket 3 adjacent to each end thereof to receive the legs 4, 4, which are adjustably held in fixed connection with the bracket within said sockets by suitable fastening means, such as the set-screws 5. This connection of the legs with the table bracket permits of an independent vertical adjustment of each of the legs relatively to said table bracket in order to adapt the length of the legs to any unevenness or irregularites in the floor and so maintain the table proper in level position.

The cross-head brace, indicated at 6, is of the form or construction illustrated and provided with cylindrical sockets for connection at its opposite ends with the legs 4, 4, in a manner to permit of its vertical adjustment on the legs, and also in a manner to permit of an independent adjustment of the two legs relatively thereto. As shown in the drawings the said brace (S is forked at each end to provide two arms 7 7, which are pro vided with alined openings 8, 8, to receive therethrough the legs 4, the said brace being held in adjustable connection with the legs 4, 4, by suitable fastening means, such as the set-screws 9, 9.

The brace 6 has connected therewith at or near its center a journal-bracket 10 for the support of the power shaft 11 from which the sewing or other machines mounted on the table are driven through the medium of suitable power transmitters. It is desirable that such journal-bracket be adjustable in order to provide for the proper alinementof the power shaft and also for the purpose of enabling the position of the shaftto be adjustable relatively to the table to meet the special requirements of the different users. To provide for such adjustments of the journal-bracket 10, the brace 6 is provided with an elongated horizontallyarranged slot 12 to receive the attaching clamping-nut 13 of said journal-bracket and permit of a horizontal adjustment of the such adjustment, a cross head brace spanl ning the space between the legs and provided at each end thereof with two cylindrical 1 sockets in vertical alinement and adapted to be engaged with said legs, means for maintaining the adjusted relation of said cross I head brace and said legs, and a shaft hanger I ad ustably secured to sald cross head brace, I all constructed and assembled so that each part, legs, cross head brace and shaft hanger i may have an independent adjustment.
