1,378 ,402. Original application filed February Be it' known that l, ALBERT; H. DE Von,
acitizen of theUnited States, residngat' Westfield; in the County of Union and State of New J ersey, have invented certain new' and useul-lmprovements in Shaft-Hangers, of which'the following isa specficaton, reference being had therein to' the accompanying drawings. V I
This nvention relates to a shaft-hanger for power-standsgsuch as that shown in myappl ication Serial No. 1 17296, filedfFeb ruary 8, 1917 5 upon which Letters Patent No; 13473 10, issued July 27, 1920, and of which this application is a division.
The objects of the invention are to provide' a shaft hanger which is readly adjustableon a supportin a number of ways, andprovide a support'for the hanger also having several adjustments, ,whereby a plua ralityof hangers in apower-stand may be readily and accurately alined.- i
The hanger comprises a shaft-bearing trunn-ionedin a supporting'yoke, the latter in turn being rotatably and slidably adjustable in a support for the hanger. The
support is carried by; a base on which it may: be rocked in any desired directionand Secured in adjusted position.
In `the' accom-panyng drawings, -Figure 1 is a vertical section through the hangersupport, showing; its adj'ustable connection with the. base or fioor-plate. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the base. Fig. 3 isa transverse i i of theplate.

head in I engagement with the 'lower surface,
of the plate. Mounted on the bas'e `is aghollow column 8 having an apertured cross p1ece9 through which the bolt' passes -a. nut 10` beng provided for the .threaded' upper end of the bolt. `Lateral openings 11 m the column allow access to the bolt and` nut. The lower' end of 'the column-is provided with an outwardly flanged portion 12 and adju'stingscrews 13 'passingthrough sa1 d portion are adapted to' engage the. raisedseats 14 provided on the 'base or floor-v plate, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. Lock-nuts 15 ,are provded for the adjusting-jscrews A combned power-transmitter and.: sha-fthanger l6'is carriedby the upper end of-the..
column. Referring to Fig.. 5it will be seen that the hanger'` has acentral reducedporton 17 in which abearing 18 forthe h aft 19'is mounted; The portion'l7carries trun- .i
nions 20 having recesses which ;are engaged by center screws Ql-mOuntedfinQthe yoket22;
The yoke 22 has ashank 23 which .is'rotatably and longitudinally adjustable inthe 7 upperend of. column' 8, a `set-screw 2 1rbeing used to secure the shankin adjustedposie Shelves 25 carried'by the column 8 are adapted to support sewing machines the latter 'being belt driven from the'` powertransmitters'. Adjacent power transmitterS are connected by the shaft 19 andalso by a T-beam 26 and brace-rods 27- (Fig, 6), A hanger'28 is carried on one of theT-beams;
and belting29 connects the pulley30 mounted on the shaft 19 inthe hanger witha main-shaftnot shown. I SpOol-holderslare hung on the rods 27 by means of hooked arms-32. Treadles 33are mountedadjacent the base of each column, each treadle being connected by suitable perating -mechanism 'with a lever 34 which actuates a :clutch in the transmitter in the manner fully' shown and described in my application Serial No.
g 260,254,fi1edfoct. 30, 1918',`upon whi h Let-, ters Patent No. 1347341, issued July 27,
1920. i i In use a desirednumberof columnsjand transmitters are assembledvinli-ne 'a single p poWer-shaft 19 being used for all; :With
the Construction above described the-various shaft-hangers may then be readilyiadjusted in proper alinement., By 'looseningthe setscrew 24 'the hanger may be bodily raised' vertically with respect to the column& or v 'i rotated in a horizontal path, and by loosenv ing the center screws 21 the hanger may be rotated in a vertical path. The hanger may also be bodily moved from side to side by adjustment of the screws 13, which allows the column 8 to be rocked about its base.
I erator to go'around the end of the table and come back on the other side with consequent inconvenience' and' loss offtim e. Then too in the power tables the mam `power shaft and pulleys thereon are usually mounted below the top of the table where they occupy considerable space and are down where articles may become entangled therein. The machines' are furthermore accessible' from oneside only. In applioant s arrangement a plurality of machines are mounted around the individual columns which "are spaced from each other, and thus they occupy a minimum of floor 5 space'and each machine is accessible at all times from different sides. Also the -main power shaft and driving pulleys are located above the machines and the heads of the operators, where they are out of the way and where articles are not liable to become entangled therein. Another advantage of applicant s arrangement of machines is that separate units may be readily added without interfering'with the 'units already installed or units may be discontinued and removed' without interferng with those retained. r i
Having thus set forth the natureof the invention, what I claim herein is- 1. A sewing machine stand 'comprising a column provided with a base having fastening means for securing it in position, a shelfsecured to said column with means for maintaining in position thereon a sewing' machine, and 'overhead shaft-bearngs carri'ed'by said' column and adapted to receive and sustain a power-shajt for driving the sewing machines. v

In combination, a sewing machine stand comprising an upright column carrying intermediate itshead and foota sewing machine shelf or table and formed at its upper end with a vertical boss, a power-transmitter 'rame-support fitted toand Secured on said boss for adjustment both axially and circularly, and a transmitter-frame sustained by said support and provided with powershaft bearings. e
3. In combination, a sewing machine stand I composed of a 'plurality of connected units i each comprising an upright column carrying intermediate its head and foot a sewing machine sheli" or table'and sustaining upon its head a power-transmitter frame provided with power-shaft bearings adjustable both vertically and laterally for alinement of said poWer-shaft bearings with those of the adjacent column or columns( ing machine shelf or table and sustaining upon its head for both lengthwise and circular adjustment upon' a vertical `axis a power-transmitter frame provided with power-shaft bearings adapted for alinement with those of the adjacent column or columns. r t
5. In combination, a sewing machine stand comprisinganupright column carryp ing intermediate its 'head and foot a sewing' machine shelf or table and' formed at `its'upper end with a vertical boss, a yoke having a shank fitted to and adjiistable both axially and circularly upon said boss and provided with transverse hearing elements, and "a power-transmitter frame pivotally mounted upon said 'hearing elements and'provided with power-shaft bearings.
6. In combination, a sewing machine stand comprising an upright column carrying 'intermediate its head and foot a sewing machine shelf or I table and having at its upper end a vertical boss, said column having at its base means for its lateral angular adjustment, a yoke having a shank fitted to and adjustable both axially and circularly upon said boss and provided with transverse 7. A sewing machine standcomprising a base member, a support connected thereto and universally adjustable -threon, a bearing member having a drive shaft therein, and a universally adjustable connection, between said hearing member and support;
