Another object of my invention is to provide a hat-hanger which is constructed of a single continuous piece of material, preferably spring wire, thus reducing thev cost of manufacture and lessening liability of the parts getting out of order. f

With these objects in view, and others appearing as the specification proceeds, my invention comprises the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts of'a hat-hanger, as will be fully hereinafter described in the specification, pointed out in the elaim,'and illustrated in the drawing.

In the accom anying drawing, forming part of my app ication for patent, and in which like letters of reference denote correponding parts throughout the several views: igure l is a perspective view'of my device in use and of a ladys hatfin position thereon and supported thereby; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of mydevice; and Fig.4 3 is a side elevation thereof. i.

Referring, now, in detail to the drawing: As shown, my hat-hanger is desirably formed out of a single, continuous piece of material, preferably spring wire, and comprises two spring-arms a, b, formed with outward-` bowed portions a, b', which, in use, engage, frictionall-y, the crown cof a hat, such as C; said arms a, l) being formed, also, with terminal members a2, b2, against which rests the f brim c of the hat, when placed on the hanger,

'thus tending to steady the hat thereon.

The Wire-hanger is formed, at the top, into a spring-loop b3, the normal tendency of Vwhich is to 'maintain the arms a, b sprung outward, as shown in full lines in Fig. 2, thus causing the outward-bowed portions a', b of said arms frictionally to engage the wall c2 of 'the crown c of the hat, interiorly of said crown, ,thus holding the hat against accidental displacement, or falling off, as, when ftraveling, from the rocking of the railroadtrain, especially when traversing mountain- Vous country and when going around steep or sharp curves. The arms 0;, b, in order to form. said loop b3, are crossed at the top, as at thepoint b4. The loop b3 also provides a Ameans for hanging the hat-holder upon a projection, as a nail or pin D.

Carried by and encircling the arms a, b, is a loop or clamp 0,3, of wire, or the like, the function of which is as follows: By pressing down .upon theclamp in a direction away from the loop b3, the arms are brought toward each other, thus removing the portions a', b from frictional engagement with the crown of the hat and releasing the hat from the hanger. Also,.when the hanger is not in use, the loop may be swung downward upon the .arms a, l), thus holding the arms nearer each other, and providing for more convenient packing of the hangers for shipment, or' the like.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and-desire to secure by Letters-Patentv is: A hat-hanger comprising two arms crossed at the top and formed, above the crossing point thereof, into a loop, said arms being formed, also, with outward-bowed portions adapted to engage interiorly of the crown of a hat, and with terminal portions, against ,which the brim of a hat may rest, to steady the hat.
