WILLIAM HILL, 'oF POITSVILLE, PENNSYLX'TANIA.
Letters Patent No. 93,085, dated July 27, 1869.
zmnovnmnnr'm MET LLIC KEGS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part ofthe name.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HILL, of Pottsville,
in the county of Schuylkill, and State of Pennsylvania,
have invented a new. and useful Improvement in Me-' tallic Kegs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
lhis invention relates to a new and useful improvement ir'the manner of putting in the heads of kegs for'containing powder and other articles when the same are made of metal, and consists in the peculiar form ot,joint made, and the bearings obtained for securing the contents and making the keg strong and durable In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 represents a keg complete, formed according, to' m, iI-vention.
Figure 2 is a. top view.
Figui 6 is a detailed wienyshowing the'fonn of oint, and tl t' locks and bearings obtained.
' biinilal lettu's of reference indicate corresponding prrts.
-A is N cm the up'per edge the In'etalis pressed inward to form an exterior Iecess, b, and a corresponding interwrshoulder, 7).
position.
e (yr nler which is made of iron or other, 7 suitable metal, hwing' its upper edge bent inward to foul n continuum hook or-cntch, asshow n at a, fig, 3.
is the head, haying its edges bent upward, as
shown, in such a manner that [the part a shall catch under the book a of the-cylinder, while its shoulder.
11, rests firmly upon the shoulderb. j
The 'joint is perfected by pressing the portions a 0 together between suitable rollers or mandrels, By this construction the joints are made tight and the keg strong, and durable, in the mostperfect and expeditious manner;
- It will be observed that the edge of the catchy rests also upon the shoulder f of the head, so that any undue-pressure upon the top of the keg serves to force 4 the? shoulders f'b' together, and against the shoulders 0 cl of the head, thereby finnly clamping the latter in riveted to the body in the same manner. I Access to the cam is obtained through an orifice'in the topwhich is covered by the groovedslide E.
Having thus described my invention,
\Vhat- I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y Uniting the heads B to the body of the powderkeg by means-of the joints and bearings a,
and f, as herein-shown and described.
WILLIAM HILL.

lfdesired, both heads of the keg [may be
