TO'ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Be it known that I, JAMES E. DEAN, of Canaan, in the county of L itchfield, in the State of Connecticut, have invented a new and improved Method of Protecting Milk in Milk-Cans from the heat ofthe summer atmosphere; and I do hereby declare that thcifollowing isa full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings; and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a milk-can with an adjustable metallic case, which case has a lining adhered to it, of felt or other non-conducting substance, and is clasped to the can in a. manner to be removed, and again adjusted at the convenience of the user.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operationt a I use galvanized iron or other suitable sheet metal, a strip about as wide as the height of the body of the can, and two inches longer than its circumference; form it to the can, then attach it with dove-tail clasps, as shown at C D, Figure 1, in the accompanying drawings. I All the inside surface B, Figure 2, of the case A, except two inches of one end for joint-lap, I cover with a lining of felt or other non-conducting substance, and, with starchor other adhesive matter, adhere the felt to the metal. I make the clnsps'C D D, three for each case, the movable part Cofa-strip of sheet metal, about four inches long, tapering from two inches to one and one-half inch in width; the parts D I), each of a strip of metal about two inches wide, the same length of the part C. Turn both edges of the part (I and one edge of each of the parts D D one-fourth of an inch, Forming a lock; then fasten the parts D D to the case by riveting 'o-r soldering, or both, in position, to draw the case tight around the can by slipping on of the part C to the a parts DD.
Thus I form a case for milk-can that is readily adjusted or removed, which I attach when the season requires the milk to be kept cooler than the atmosphere, and which I remove while the animal heatis being taken from the milk, or when otherwise required. I
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The adjustable metallic case A, lined ivith felt or other non-conducting substance adhered to it, cr without the lining, and the adjusting of it with the-movable clasp C D D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth,
.rA-MEs E. DEAN.
