citizen of the United States, residing at Ot-n sego, Michigan, have invented certain new and useful lmprovernentsin Fail-Supports, of which the following is a specification.V

This invention relates to improvements in pail supports. Y Y

The main object of this invention is to provide an improved pail support which is effective for the purpose, convenient to use, and economical in'structure.

Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow. y

l accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.

The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.

A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:

Figure 1 isa side elevation of a structure embodying the features of my invention, the supports being shown in their extended position and in their collapsed position by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a detail side elevation, showing one of the supports in its collapsed position. Fig. 3 is-a detail vertical section taken on a line corresponding to line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail horizontal section taken on a line corresponding to line 4-4 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a detail elevation of a modified construction, the rest being formed to support the pail in a lower position thanrthe structure shown in Figs. 1 to 4. Fig. 6 is a detail view of the structure shownl in Fig. 5 with the support collapsed.

ln the drawing, similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.

Referring to the drawing, the pail 1 illustrated is the usual form of tin milk pail. The bail 2 therefor is formed of wire and has the usual hand piece v3. The bail is connected to the pail by ears 4. These ears are formed of sheet metal and are provided with eyes`5 to receive the bail, and are secured to the pail by rivets 6. The lower edges of the ears are rolled into pivot knuckles 7 the edge being turned up underthe body of the ear, making the knuckle very secure.

The rest 8 is formed of a piece of wire bent into a loop having parallel portions9 with :offsets 4`10 therein. These are extended so that they are held in their extended position, it being intended that the supports shall rest upon the knees of the user. The ends of the wire are bent inwardly to Aform Vpivots 11, which engage the knuckle 7, thereby pivotally securing the supports in place. The

pivots 11 are retained in the knuckle by means of the strap 12, which is secured to the parallel portions 8, as illustrated. This strap is preferably formed of a strip of sheet metal, its ends 13 being folded around the wire, as clearly appears in Fig. 4. When the ear is riveted' to the pail, the knuckle is drawn or clamped upon the pivots'so that the rests remain in their adjusted positions. ln the modified construction shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the rest is curved upwardly and lengthened so that the ail is supported in a lower position. The slioulders are not necessary in this form as the rest swings against the ear when in its extended position.

By this simple construction, I secure a pail holder or support which is very convenient and effective in use, and also simple and economical in structure. "When the supports are collapsed, they lie quite close to the sides of the pail so that they do not interfere with any use to which it would ordinarily be ut. P Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. The combination with the pail of a bail therefor 5 an ear for said bail, said ear being formed of sheet metal and having its lower edge'rolled into a pivot knuckle g a rest formed of a piece of wire bent into a loop, the ends of the wire being substantially parallel and olfset downwardly to form supporting shoulders and turned inwardly to form knuckle engaging pivots; and a strap connecting the parallel portions of said loop whereby the said pivots are retained in the knuckle.

2. The combination with the pail of a bail therefor an ear for said bail, said ear being formed of sheet metal and having its lower edge rolled into a pivot knuckle; and a rest formed of a piece of wire bent into a loop, the

\ ends of the wire being substantially parallel and offset downwardly to form supporting shoulders and turned inwardly to form knuckle engaging pivots.

3. The combination with the pail of a bail therefor; an ear for said bail; a pivot knuckle thereon; a rest formed of a piece oi' wire bent into a loop, the ends of the wire being substantially parallel and offset downwardly to form supporting shoulders and turned inwardly to form knuckle engaging pivots; and a strapV connecting the parallel portions oi' said loop whereby the saidv pivots are retained in the knuckle.
