DRAFT-CARRIER AND BODY-BOLSTER CONSTRUCTION;
Y No. 929,246.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 27, 1909.
Application filed May 28, 1908. Serial No. 435,405.
To all whom 'it may concern:

An ob ect oi my invention 1s to provide a new and improved draft-carrier and bod y bolster construction for cars.
A iurther ob ect of the present invention 1s to provide simple and elhelent means for connecting the draft-carrier to the bodytion; Fig. 2 a sectional view, the section bemodified construction of the form of Fig. 1.
ing taken on line 22 01' l= and 4 detail perspective views 0 a modified form of carrier and body'-bo lste1"l'r .im those shown in Fig. l Fig. 5 a detail perspective view of separable center-plate casting'employed in connection with the construction shown by Figs. 3 and 4, and Fig. 6 a plan of a slightly 1; l ig Referring to the drawing, 1 designates a body-bolster preferably made of cast-metal and as an integral structure comprising a top-member 2, a bottom-member2- and a Web 4. joining the two members. in the form of Fig. 1, I form the center-bearing integral with the bolster, while infthe form of Fig. 4, the center-bearing is a separable casting as particularly shownby Fig.
r Inaddition to the parts above referred to, the body-bolster at one side thereof, is provided. with vertically extending spaced m cm- 'bers 6 and with grooves or recesses ,7 formed adjacent to the said members 6. 4
8 designates the dralt carrier lnivmg' formed at one end thereof e1igaging-members 0r flanges 9. The engaging end of the carrier is located between the spaced members 6 of the body-bolster with its members J lo- F cated in the grooves or recesses T. in the forms oi Figs. 1 and l the side faces oi the carrier are riveted to the memiwrs ii ol" the bolster, while in the form oi' 'r'ig. (E I provide the bolsterwith a laterally extending plate 10 and rivet the end of the carrier thereto.
In the eonstriu-tion illustrating my invention injvhich the eenter-easting bearing 5 is separable from the; body-bolster proper the body-bolster, in addition to the members (i and tlwgrooves'fi, is provided with a 'ilange 11 which flange adapted to enter an opening 12 formed in ,the carrier.
" What I clainris:
l; The combination with a bmly-bolster having a side t ereol' adapted to receive an end 01' a'dra'l carrier and having engagingmeans -l'o'rmed integral therewith, oi a dral'tcarrier extending' only to a side ol' the bolster and provided with means for interlocking with the integral engagiiig-means ol the bolster.
-2. 'lhe eoml'iination with a' body-bolster having a side thereof adapted to receive an end of a draft-carrier and 'l'orm d with integral vertically extending spaced members, of a draft-carrier having an end located between the said members ol' the bolst r and secured thereto.
3. The combination .ritha bmly-bolster having a side thereof adap i toreeeivean end of a draft-carrier and iormed .xith vertieally ext nding spaced memlwrs and a groove or recess adjacent to each ol 'the said members, of a draft-carrier having an' end located between. the spaced members and an engaging-member located in each groove or recess of the bolster.
4. The eombinationwith a body-bolster having a side thereof adapted to receive an endol' a dra'l'twarrior and 'tormed \rith ver tieally extending recesses or grooves, of a draft-carrier having engaging-menibers iitted into the grooves or recesses of the body-bob story i 5. The combination with a body-bolster;
having a side formed with Vertically extend- I In testimony whereof I affix my signature ing spaced-mebmbers and a gnfiwe adjacent I in presence of two Witnesses. V to each mem er, a, orizonta extending engaging member, of a draft-carrier having an OSWALD L 5 engaging-member located in each groove and Witnesses:
formed with a groove to receive the horizon A. O. YVAY,
