Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 27, 190e.
Appucaaoamea Karen 2o, 1909. semi No. $4,661.
To all 'it may concern:
Be 1t known' that I, EARL E. CONSTABLE, a
vcitizen of the .United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Swinging C0unter-Cabinets, of which the following is .a
My invention relates to improvements in swinging counter cabinets, and more particularly, to improvements in' swingv cabinets adapted to be hingedly'mounted in the open.
inner side of an ordinary counter, the invention belng specially designed for the use of merchants 1n storing and4 dispensing oom- .modities contained in vessels or containers such as butter and lard in tubs, cans, and the like.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a generally improved swinging counter cabinet which will be exceedingly simple in construction, cheap of manufac-V ture, eflicient in use, and much better adapted to its intended purposes than any lother device of the same class witl whiclrI am ac uainted.
nother object is to provide a generally improved swing cabinet frame of great stren th and rigidity constructed and dispose in such a manner as to economize as much as ossible the space'behind the counter and a Ording a ready means for mounting the containers upon and removing the same from the improved swing cabinet.
With the above mentioned ends in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts hereinafter described, 4illustrated in one of its embodiments in -the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figurel, is a perspective view of an ordinary open sided counter `like drawings.
Imounted receptacle-engaging block carried by the bottom of the improved swing cabinet.- Similar numerals of reference designate parts throughout all the figures of the The improved swing cabinet, the 'present instance, 1s shownk a plied to an Ordinar counter 1, provided .w1th the usual ends and ogen inner side 3. The swing cabinetis hinge ly -mounted in the'open side ofthe counter .and is referably hmgedly secured tothe inner-end) corners by means of hinge members 4, so that when the cabinet is swung upon thehinge members to its normal posi tion oneof the angular sides of the quadrant shaped bottom will strike or abut against the .adjacent end 2, of the counter.
The swing cabinet frame comprises a vertically arranged angle-iron hinge member 5, and angle-iron base members 6, secured to the base portion of the hinge member 5, by vmeans of rivets 7 (see Fig. 2) and extending at rightfangles to each other forming bottom-su porting ledges 6a, adapted to receive andl ta e over the angularly-extending sides lof the quadrant-shaped bottom 8. A air of brace straps 9, and.9a, are secured to t e upper end of the vertically-arranged hinge member 5, and extend downwardly and outwardly and are secured at their lower ends to the outer or free ends of the base members 6, for the purpose of supporting the curved or free side of the 'bottom and supporting the upper portion of the containeror receptacle 1Q, as hereinafter .described A vertical panel-supporting member 11, is secured to and carried by one of the base members 6, and, together with the adjacent brace strap 9, is adapted to carry and secure together the matched strips forming the' panel or face side 12, of the improved swing cabinet.
The quadrant-shaped bottom is preferably formed of a plurality of layers of wood adapted to give it great strength and 1s referably covered with a metallic coverlng 8a, as shown.
The downwardly and outwardly extending brace straps 9, and 9a, are adapted to' support the upper portion of the receptacle or container 10, when the latter 1s placed 1n osition u on the bottom 8, and asa mea-ns for secure y maintaining the receptacle in engagement with said brace strap? a receptacleengaging block 13,-is adjusta lymounted upon the bottom 8, said reoeptac e engaging `block being adapted to abut agamst the edge of the bottom of the receptacle and is rovided with a pin 14, adapted to be seated 1n one of the openings 15, arranged in the bottom 8, of the swing cabinet. The arrangement of the openmgs 15, permits of -the adjustment of ithe, receptacle engaging 1. In a swinging counter cabinet'- the comextending at rig bination with a quadrant-sha bottom supported b a frame having' ownwardly and outwar ly extending bracestraps at its angular sides; of. a receptacle-engaging block adjustably mounted on said bottom intermediate said an lar sides.
2. In. a swinglng counter cabinet, a'swing cabinet frame com rising an angle iion hinge member, ang e iron buse members mounted in and connected to the base portion of said an le iron hinge member and t angles to each other and forming bottom-supporting` ledges, bracestraps connected .to the upper end of said hinge member and secured to the outer ends of said base members, and a vertical anelsupportin member carried by one o said base mem rs.
3. In a swmglng counter cabinet, a swing cabmet comprlsm hinge and base members carrying a qua' ant-shaped bottom and brace-straps extending downwardly and outwardly from the upper end of said 'hing'e engaging block carrie by said bottom, said brace-straps being adapted to support the upper portion of a receptacle and said block gagement with said brace-straps.
' 4. A Swingin counter cabinet, comprising an o en sidedg counter a swin cabinet hinge y mounted in the open si e 'of said counter and consistin of base members extending at right ang es to eachother and carrying a quadrantshaped bottom, a vertical hinge member secured at its lower end to the meeting 'ends of said basemembers brace members secured to the upper end o said vertical hinge member an secured to the free ends of said base members, a vertical panel-supporting member secured to being adaptedto engage the bottom ,of said A receptacle and maintain the latter in en-` and carried by one of said base members,
and a panel secured to said panel-supporting members and normally resting 1n the plane of the open side of said counter.
In testimony whereof I have aiixed my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
