The present invention relates to containers for such articles as matches, cigarettes and the like; and its object is to provide improved means for mounting sucha container in an opening in a wall of an automobile body or the like.

This object is attained by, and the invention finds preferable embodiment in, the structure hereinafter particularly described in the body of this specification and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a support for a container;

Figure 2 is a top plan view of the container and its support, the wall whereon the same are mounted and portions of the container and its support being shown in horizontal section taken on line 2-2 of Figure 2a 3; and

Figure 3 is a. view in perspective of the container, its support, and a portion of the wall on which the same are mounted.

In the embodiment of the invention illus trated by the drawings, the device comprises a container 1 seated in a rectangular opening 2 through the inner member 3 of the wall of an automobiles body, and having top and bottom sides, 4, 5, a rear side 6 and a laterally extending flan e 7 whose edge abuts said walls outer sur ace and conceals. the opening 2 into which the container extends. A support-the bar 8-is inserted into saidopening, and comprises arear member 9 and side members 10 o positely disposed and having outwardly extending spring tongues 11 which are sprung inwardly in thrusting the support into said opening. The container is now inserted into the opening 2 between the supports side members 10, with the edge of its flange 7' contacting the outer surface of the wall 3. Screws 12 extending through the cont-ainers rear side 6- and threaded at 13 in the supports rear member 9 are turned to draw said parts toward each other and thusclamp the Wall 3 between. the extremities of the tongues 11 contacting the walls inner surface and the flange 7 contacting its outer surface. The container may be provided with any suitable'lid or cover, such as the member l lhaving a knob or handle 15 for opening it, andbeing swingably mounted adjacent its lower edge as indicated at 16.

The invention being intended to be pointed out in the claims,*is not to be limited to or by details of construction of the particular embodiment thereof illustrated by the drawings or hereinbefore described.

I clalm:

1. In combination with a wall having an opening therethroughz' a support inserted into the opening and comprising a rear into the opening and comprising a rear member and side members oppositely disposed ahd having outwardly extending spring tongues; a container inserted into the opening between said side members and having a rear'side and a laterally extending flange; a screw extending through the containers rear side, threaded in the supports rear member and turnably operable from inside the container to clamp the wall between the extremities of the tongues on the walls inner surface and the flange on the walls outer surface:
