MODESTO ORZALI, OF LUGOA, ITALY.
COLLAPSIBLE PACKAGE-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 30, 1908.
Patented July 20, 1909.
Serial No. 470,013.
lb all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, Monns'ro O'RZALI, manufacturer, residing at Lucca, Ttaly, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Collapsible Package-Boxes, fully described and represented in the following specification and the accompanying drawing, forming a part of the same.
This invention relates to package boxes.
An object of the invention is to provide a box, which may serve as a container for shipping goods, and which may easily be taken apart and reassembled again.
In the drawing: Figure l is a perspective view of an assembled box according to this invention, Fig. 2 is a plan top view of an embodiment of the invention, Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the same, Fig. 4 is a perspective view of part of the cover of the box, Fig. 5 is an end elevation of a part of the box. The box consists of a'bot-tom, two side walls, two end walls, and a cover. As may be seen from Fig. 3 the bottom comn'ises one board or a plurality of boards 1;
the cross bars 2 are attached to these boards in the usual way by means of nails or screws. The two side walls are formed in a similar way, as may be seen from Fig. 1, comprising a. plurality of boards 3, held together by means of the cross pieces l, which extend somewhat abreast on both sides. The two end walls consist of a plurality of boards 9, which on their vertical edges are held together by means of angle iron 10. These angle irons serve for protecting the edges of the box, and at their upper and lower ends, extending somewhat beyond the end wall, their flanges are in some suitable way bent over horizontally so as to form cap 13. The cover, as shown in Fig. 2, comprises two lateral boards 5 and a central portion 6. The portion 6 as shown in Fig. at is provided with cross pieces 7, onto which U-shaped strips 8 are fastened.
The bottom, cover, and the two end walls of the box are held together by means of iron frames 11, which in the manner shown in Fig 5 are secured to the bottom in slots 12 of the cross bars 2, between these bars and the bottom 1. In assembling the box, the bottom is laid down, the iron frames 11 are inserted in the slots 12, wherein they are held upright. The two end walls 9 are then placed inside the frame, so that their horizontal bottom edges rest upon the boards 1 and so that the lower caps 18 cover the corners of the bottom. The side walls 3 are inserted, so that their vertical edges rest inside the free flanges of the angle iron 10, and the extending edges of cross bar 4 engage the faces of bars 2. The cover boards 5 are placed on top, underneath the upper caps 13, beneath the frame 11, and abutting against the extending upper ends of the cross bar l. Finally the cover portion (3 is attached, wherein the cross-bars 7 abut against the still extending ends of the bars l. The strips 8 are fastened to the bars 4: by means of bolts 14:, passing through holes provided in the bars at and the extending ends of these bolts are provided with eyes and may be fastened together by'means of a string 15 and seal 16 or in some other suit-- able way.
I claim:
A collapsible package box comprising a bottom, end walls, and side walls held together by means of iron frames, angle irons provided on the end walls, wood cross pieces on the side walls and the bottom, the latter having slots wherein fit the iron frames, and a cover comprising two lateral boards, and a central board carrying wood cross pieces, U-shaped iron strip fastened on said cross pieces and provided with holes which register against holes provided in the cross pieces of the side walls, and bolts passing through said holes and having eyes through which passes a string connecting them.
In witness thereof I have hereunto signed my name in t-hepresence of two subscribing witnesses.
