JOHN L. FRUIN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINATION wAs're.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN L. FRUIN, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of borough of Brooklyn, New York city, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Waste, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of waste sweeps which is known as combination waste for the reason that the sweep receives the waste from two or more articles such as a bath, and basin or bath and sink, or similar articles which have to be discharged and vented, so that some of the entering pipes act as combined waste and vent.
The object of my invention is to provide an extra side inlet above the level of the sweep so that there is no danger of clogging the inlet by the discharge of a too sluggish current across its mouth or of siphoning out the sink, bath, basin, or other article which discharges into said side inlet by having too rapid or free a current pass by its mouth.
My invention, therefore, consists in a combinationwaste in which one of the combination waste and vent branches is provided with a side inlet located above the normal level of the discharge current passing through said combination waste.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 represents the side elevation of my improved combination waste, provided with two combining waste and vent branches, Fig. 2 is a top view. 1
Same letters indicate similar parts in the different figures.
A is the horizontal or sweep part of the combination waste, and is provided at one end with a flange a, adapted for insertion in the hub of the usual waste tee. This sweep rovided with two u wardly projecting hu s B, G, which are a apted to receive a pipe or fitting which may serve as a vent or waste, or a combined waste and vent accord-.

ing to the character of the plumbing system in which my improved combination waste maybe used.
In order to provide a side inlet which shall receive and deliver the discharge from desired article, such as a bath tub, sink, basin, or the like without requiring an independent vent and without danger of being clogged or siphoned out by the action of the combination waste, and without danger of clogging or siphoning out the combined waste and vent branch which it enters and by means of which it is vented. I rovide a side inlet opening D, with proper y flaring mouth at such a height above the bottom of the horizontal part A, as to afford suiiicient space for the normal quantity or current or discharge to pass substantially below the mouth of the inlet so that the )assing current cannot back into the inlet or clog it or siphon out the usual trap located between said inlet and the article for which it serves as a discharge. The location of the side inlet combined with its flaring character is such that it can deliver its own current without clogging or tending to si hon the combined waste and vent pipe whic enters the hub B, above it.
The use of this combination waste will, I think, be readily appreciated by plumbers, architects, and builders without further description.
I claim:
A combination waste consisting of a horizontal portion and a numberv of combined waste and vent branches, and provided with a side inlet having an inwardly flaring mouth and entering one of said branches at a point above the normal level of the current passing through said horizontal portion.
Signed at New York city this 21st day of Sept. 1907.
