Description

Qwhat 'guette naar naar.
Letters Patent No. 92,675, elated July 13, 1869.
IMPRovED MILK-SME.
The Schedule referred tu in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whomitmay concern g Be it known that 1,'JACOB WALnnoN, of North Creek, in the `county of Warren, and in theState' of New York, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in Milk-Safes; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description there` of, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of lreference marked thereon, making a part'of' this specification. y' The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a revolving safe for keeping' milk, butter, cheese, or other articles, cool and out of the way from flies, bugs, or other animals.
In order to enable others skilled in thev art to-which my invention appertains, to make andA `use the same,\I will now proceedto describe its construction and operation, referring fto the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a horizontal section, and
Figure 2 is a side elevation of my'safe.
A represents a vertical shaft or beam, of suitable dimensions, having a pivot, a, at each end, vso that it may be placed in suitable pivot-boxes, and revolved at pleasure.
Near the upper end of the shaft A, and on the same, is secured a horizontal top, B, of Octagon shape, and tO each corner of said top, is secured a vertical strip, b,`which extends downward.
' The lower ends of the vertical' strips b b are 'con-v nected -by horizontal strips cI c, forming an Octagon frame, a trifle less infdiameter than the octagontop B.
In the Octagon'frame c vc are placed shelves Or lat-' tice-work, d, ofthe peculiar arrangement shown in iig. 1, the shelves lcrbssing each Other,'forming shelving room for twelve pans, there being three opposite every other side of the framel c.
The shelves d l are secured or fastened by screws to the lower ends of the strips b b, or theyi may be y made secure to the frame c, in either case also serving as braces for the machine.
Between this shelving and the top B is placed `a series 0f similar shelves at regular distances apart, and 'secured by screws to the strips b'b. In a fullsized safe I intend t'o place eight such intermediate rows of shelving, making 'room for one Ahundred and eight pans.
. From near the lower end of the shaft A, Ifour braces, C C, extend upward and outward, the upper ends of saidbraces being under' the point where the shelves dd cross eachl other. At this point; between each row of shelving, is placed a wooden tube, e, forming supports for the shelves.
Through the upper'ends of the braces O 0, through the shelves'cl (l, and `.tubes eve, are passedrods t' i, which also pass through the top B, and are secured by nuts, thus holdingthe whole safe firmly together.
Under the lowest shelvingis-stretched ne wire webbing or netting, which is secured'to the under side Of the frame c c. Y
Every other side of the safe, namely, the sides where each row vof shelving forms room for three pans, as above mentioned, is provided with a door, f. The doors f fr and the 'reuiamingfou'r sides of the safe,"are also covered with line wire webbing, preventing illes or bugs from coming into the milk.
The safe, thus constructed,'is .placed in a cellar` or milk-room, so that it can be revolved with ease. One of the doors, f, is Opened, and the shelving on this side illedwith pans of milk, when the door is closed, the safe turned one-fourth around, and that side filled, and soon until all theA milkl is put away.
It will, of course,.he understood that this safe can be use for cheese, or any other articles that it may be desired to put away for a certain length of time. The Wire webbing, at the same time that it prevents flies 0r other bugs from coming in themilk, allows free .circulation of air, so as Ato cool or keep cool the articles places therein.
My safe can be easily taken apart, and` pnt up again,
'and r'saves 'a great deal. of room.
Having-thus fully described my-inventiou,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is--' The arrangement "of the Octagon frame B b c, with unto set my hand, this 29th day ofAApril, 1869.
