To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN HANSEN, a citizen of theUnited States, and a resident Lot San Antonio, in the county of Bexar and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Lock for Toy Banks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to toy banks, and has for its object to provide a bank with a door to which is secured a recept-acle which is adapted to contain camphor, menthol, or other similar substance, which will gradually decrease in size when exposed to the air, there being a supported bolt on which there is a plate which is adapted to press against the contents of the box; a bar being secured to the door post, a pawl being pivoted to the bolt, a spring being mounted on the bolt, which is adapted not only to press the plate against the contents of the box, but which is also adapted to keep the pawl in engagement with the bar; the bar which is secured to the door post having a free terminal which will permit the pawl to slide oil therefrom, to unlock the door; and I also provide an indicator on the front of the door which is adapted to show the position of the pawl relatively to the said bar.
In this specification I will describe the preferred forni of my invention, but I do not limit myself thereto, as I consider myself entitled to all forms and embodiments of the invention which may be held to fall within the scope otI the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation showing the oxterior of a bank door, to which my invention has been applied; F ig. 2 is an interior view of the bank door to which my invention has been applied; Fig. 3 is a sectional View on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is f a sectional view on the line 1w-4 ot' Fig. 2;
and Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
It will be understood that my invention is particularly designed for use in connection with toy banks, and that the toy bank 1 may be constructed in any approved manner and that the door 2 may hinge thereto, in any appropriate method which is familiar to those acquainted with the art. To the door 2 is secured a receptacle 3 which is adapted to conta-in camphor, menthol, or other similar material which will decrease in size when exposed to the air, the receptacle having one side 4, open to permit of a plate 5 having sliding engagement with the interior of the box; the plate being` mounted on ar hollow bolt 6 which is supported on a stem 7, which is secured to the bank door 2 by means of a flange S. A pawl 9 is secured to the hollow bolt 6 and is adapted to move therewith when the hollow bolt 6 slides on the stem 7. A coil spring 1() is disposed on the hollow bolt 6, one terminal of the spring being secured to the pawl 9 and the other terminal being secured to the bearing 11 which is secured to the door Q. The coil springr 1() serves two purposes; one of which is to press the hollow bolt 6 with the plate 5, so that the plate will press on the contents ot the receptacle 3, and the other purpose is to keep the pawl 9 in engagement with a bar 1Q, which is secured to a door post 13, by means of a lange 14. To the plate 5 is secured a rod 15 which engages an arm 16 secured to a stud 17, which is journaled in the door 2, and to which, on the outside of the door is secured a pointer 1S.
In using' my invention, the parts are constructed and are disposed as has been indicated, with a quantity of cainphor, menthol or other similar substance 19 disposed in the receptacle 8, or it desired, this receptacle 3 may be so constructed that substances which will diminish in size when exposed to the air, may be introduced as desired by the user of the bank. The substance 19, having been introduced into the receptacle 3, the door of the bank is closed, when the pawl 9 will engage the bar 12 and will be held in this engagement by means of a coil spring 10. The bank will then be found to be locked, and until the substance 19 so decreases in size as to permit the plate 5 to assume with the hollow bolt 6, such a position with reference to the receptacle 3, which will permit the bolt, which is adapted to travel with the hollow bolt, to slip ott' the free terminal of the bar 12. vWhen the pawl 9 does slip off the bar 12, the door of the bank Will be found to be unlocked.
Y Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a bank, a receptacle for material which will diminish in size when exposed to the air, means which are adapted to press against the contents of the receptacle, and means which are adapted to secure the door to the door post of the bank, the last named means being adapted to be freed by the first named means.
2. In a bank, a receptacle for material which Will diminish in size When exposed to the air, means which are adapted to press against the contents of the receptacle, means to so press the first named means, and means which are adapted to secure the door to the door post of the bank, the said means being adapted to be operated by the first named means.
8. In a bank, a door therefor, a receptacle for material Which Will diminish in size when exposed to the air, means which are adapted to lock the door of the bank, the said means being adapted to travel relatively to the receptacle, and means for controlling the posit-ion of the said means, the last named means being adapted to press on the contents of the receptacle.
4f. In a bank, a door therefor, a receptacle for material which Will diminish in size when exposed to the air, a bar, means in connection with the bar which are adapted to lock the door, and a bolt to which the said means are secured, the bolt being adapted to travel and to press against the contents of the receptacle.
5. In a bank, a door therefor, a receptacle for material which Will diminish in size When exposed to the air, a bar, means in connection with the bar which are adapted to lock the door, a bolt to which the said means are secured, the bolt being adapted to travel and to press against the contents of the receptacle, and a spring which is adapted to press the bolt against the contents of the receptacle.
6. In a bank, a door therefor, a receptacle for material which Will diminish in size when exposed to the air, a bar, means in connection With the bar which are adapted to lock the door, a bolt to which the said means are secured, the bolt being adapted to travel and to press against the contents of the receptacle, and means for pressing the bolt against the contents of the receptacle and for holding the first named means in yielding engagement With the bar.
7. In a bank, a door therefor, means on the door, means on the door post, the said means on the door being adapted to engage the means on the door post to lock the door,
and a receptacle which is adapted to contain material which will diminish in size when exposed to the air, one of the said means bef ing adapted to press on the contents of the receptacle.

12. In a bank, a door therefor, a receptacle for material which will diminish in size when exposed to the air, a bar, a bolt which is adapted to press on the contents of the receptacle and which is adapted to move relatively thereto, and apawl mounted on the bolt, the pawl being adapted to engage the bar to lock the door.
13. In a bank, a door therefor, a receptacle for material which will diminish in size when exposed to the air, the receptacle being open at one end, a bar, a bolt, a plate mounted on the bolt, the plate being adapted for pressing against the contents of the receptacle, a support for the bolt with which the bolt has a sliding engagement, a pawl mounted on the bolt, the pawl being adapted to engage the bar to lock the door, and means for pressing the plate against the contents of the receptacle and for holding the pawl in a sliding engagement with the bar.
16. In a bank, a door therefor, a receptacle which is open at one end, the receptacle being adapted to contain material which will diminish in size when exposed to the air, a hollow bolt, a plate secured thereto, the plate being disposed in the receptacle, a stem disposed within the bolt to serve as a support therefor, the bolt with its plate being adapted to move to different positions relatively to the receptacle, a pawl mounted on the bolt, and a bar with a free terminal, the pawl being adapted to engage the bar to lock the door. 19. In a bank, a door therefor, means to lock the door, a receptacle, means Connected with the first named means which are adapted to press against the contents of the receptacle, the Iirst named means being adapted to be unlocked when the second named means assumes a predetermined position with reference to the receptacle, a pointer on the outside of the bank which is adapted to indieate the relative position of the lirst named means, and means to so operate the pointer.
20. In a bank, a door therefor, a receptacle for material which will diminish in size when exposed to the air, a bar, a bolt which is adapted to press on the contents of the receptacle, means in connection with the bolt which are adapted to engage the bar to lock the door, a pointer on the outside of the bank which is adapted to indicate the relative position of the bolt, and means to so operate the pointer.

A bank, a door therefor, a receptacle open at one end, a bolt, a plate secured to the bolt, the plate being disposed in the receptacle, a support for the bolt with which it has a sliding engagement, a pawl pivoted to the bolt, a bar with a free terminal, the pawl being adapted to engage the bar to lock the door, a pointer on the outside of the bank which is adapted to indicate the relative position of the bolt, and means to operate the pointer.
