IMPROVEMENT IN CARD-HOLDERS.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLLAM H. RYNIN- GER, of Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore and in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card- Holder; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof,-reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification:

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a card-annunciator, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is an end view of my machine; Fig. 2 is a similar view with the exterior end piece removed; and Fig.3 is a longitudinal vertical section of the entire machine.

A represents a rectangular box of any suitable dimensions, the front end of which is formed of thick metal plate B, and the top is formed of two plates, 0 and D. The plate 0 is fastened to the box at the front end, and has a slot, to, at the end immediately against the plate B, large enough for a card to be pushed up from the inside of the box. The

inner edge of the plate D is beveled, as shown, slipping under the edge of the plate 0, and the outer edge of the plate D is held, as shown, at the rear end of the box, by a spring E. The cards are placed within the box against the back of the plate B, and pressed against the same by a spiral spring, G, the ends of which bear against blocks H H inserted in the box, one against the cards and the other against the rear end of the box, with the spring between said blocks. The mechanism for-forcing one card at a time up through the slot at is as follows: On the outside of the end-plate B is a slide, I, slotted vertically' with a set-screw, b, passing through said slot into the plate B. The lower edge of the sliding-plate I is bent inward under the plate B, and then up on the inner side of the same. That part of the sliding-plate I which is under the lower edge of the plate B is cut away at the sides to correspond with a slot or recess made in the lower edge of said plate B, thus allowing the slide I to move vertically up and down for a certain distance. At the upper edge of the slide I is an outward-projecting flange, cl, against the under side of which opcrates the inner end of a lever, J, pivoted to the plate B. The slide is forced downward by a spring, 6, placed around a rod, f, attached to a projection, h, on the plate B, and passing through the flange d on the slide I, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. When the slide I is pressed downward by the spring 6 the turned-up lower edge of the same will be immediately below the bottom of the box, or rather the upper surface of said bottom, immediately against the inner side of the end-plate B. If the outer end of the lever J is pressed down the slide will be raised, causing its inner turnedup edge to force the card, which is against the plate B, up through the slot at sufficiently far to allow it to be pulled out. The spring 0 at once throws the slide down again, and as soon as the card is pulled out the spring G presses the cards up against the plate B, so that the next card will be in position to be forced out by the next manipulation of the lever J. The entire outer end of the boxis inclosed by a frame, K, having a glass plate, m, and advertising or business card, a, underneath, which thus entirely covers the operating mechanism. Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

As an article of manufacture the withindescribed card-annunciator, consisting of the box A with plates B O D, springs E G, and blocks H H, the slotted slide I, with thumbpiece 8, the lever J, spring 0, and frame K with glass m, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
