W. AGIN.
WINDOW FASTENER. APPLICATION FILED 111111.10, 1909.
Afro/Mfrs WINFRED AGIN, oF cniLLicornE, onio.
WINDOW-FASTENER;
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented .Tune 15, 1909.
Application led March 10, 1909. Serial No..482,4'70.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, WINFRED AGIN, a citi- Zen of Chillicothe, in the county of Ross and j State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in JindoW-Fasteners, of j Which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in Window fasteners, and consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the drawings forming a part hereof Figure 1 is a perspective vieW of a portion of a Window with the fastener in place. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section through the fastener showing the fastener in locking position. Fig. 3 is a similar view, showing it in unlocked position. Fig. l is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
rlhe present embodiment of the invention comprises a casing 1 provided With a removable cover 2, secured in place by screws 3, Which pass through the bottom of the casing and enter the lower sash 4, whereby to secure the casing to the sash.
The casing is provided With bolts 5 and 6, arranged at right angles to each other, the bolt 5 being adapted to engage one of a series of openings 7 in the upper sash 8, Whilel the bolt 6 is adapted to engage an opening 9 in the Window casement 10. The bolt 5 locks the sashes together, and by providing a series i of openings 7 the sashes may be locked With j one or both partly opened.
The bolt 5 is provided With a head or handle 11, for manipulating the same, and with a lateral projection 12, one of Whose edges is inclined to form a cam 13. The bolt 6 is provided at its center with a plate 1&1, having a recess 15 in the side edge adjacent to the lateral projection, and into which the enlargement fits, the inner edge of the recess being inclined as shown at 16, for engagement by the cam face 13 of the enlargement. On the other side of the enlargement from the bolt 6, is a pin 17, which traverses an opening in the end of the casing, and a spring 1S is arranged between the late and the inner face of the casing end, t e spring acting as Will be evident to 'retain both bolts in locked position.
A latch 19 is pivoted to the plate as at 20 and the free end thereof passes through an opening 21 in the casing Wall, and is provided With a hook, for engaging the edge of the opening to retain the bolt 5 in unlocked position and as a consequence the bolt 6. The bolt 5 extends through oppositely arranged openings 22 in the sides of the casing, and the bolt 6 extends through an opening 24 in the end of the casing.
lt Will be evident from the description, that when the bolt 5 is Withdrawn by the handle 11, the incline or cam 13 Will engage the inclined face 16, to move the bolt 6 against the spring 18, and that when the bolt 5 is released, the force of the spring will force the inclined face against the cam 13, thus forcing the bolt 5 to move into closed position Withthe bolt 6.
lt will be observed that the opening 22 in the casing adjacent the head or handle 11 is of considerable length, so that the handle may be moved laterally to start the bolt 6. By means of the latch 19 both bolts may be retained in the unlocked position shown in Fig. 3.
l claim- A device of the class described, comprising a casing, bolts arranged at right angles to each other and movable through the casing, one of said bolts being provided With an enlarged portion having a central transverse recess, said recess having an inclined inner edge, the other bolt having a cam Within the recess and engaging the inclined face of the recess and a spring arranged between the ene larged portion of the bolt and the Wall of the casing for the purpose set forth, and a latch pivoted to the enlarged portion the end Wall of the casing having a slot through which the latch passes, said latch having a catch for engaging the edge of the slot for retaining the bolts in retracted position.
