LATCH DEVICE FOR WINDOWS, 65e.A
Svpecicatio'n of Letters Patent. Patented Au". 26, 1913.
Application 'filed March 25, 1913'. Serial No. 756,715.
etc., the object of the invention being to so construct the latch devices that they may be used interchangeably for locking sashes together, for locking one, or the other or bothsashes to the window casing, or so that they may be employed tolatch a door.
- Vithl this object in View, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and conibinations of parts as hereinafter set, forth and pointed .out in the claims.v
In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a vier showing the applicationof my improvements to themeeting rails of window sashes; Fig-2 is a view showing the appli-4 cation of the device tor locking the bottom or the top sash or a. screen to the sill or stile of a. window casing. Fig. 3 is a. View showing my improvements when 'used for latclb ing a door, and Figs. l. 5 and 6 are detail views dt' the latch devices.
1 represents a. plate provided centrally- \vith .an enlargement@ and having holes 3 near its ends for the accomxnodation'of fastening devices. A latch button tis pivotally attached to the enlarfrcment 2 of late 1 and isprovided with a thumb piece 5 for turn-v ing said latch button to cause it to engage` or become disengaged Vfrom a keeper 6. The keeper (3 consists of a plate 7 having holes 8 for vtastening' devices, and an enlargement 9, the base, top and one side of which are made with slots or recesses l0, 11, 12 respectively.
When my improvements are employed as means for locking two sashs together, the
y plate carrying the latch button 4 will be secured upon the meeting rail at the upper 'end of the lower sash and the keeper 6 will be secured to the lower meeting rail of the .upper sash so the slot 12 in the side of the enlargement 9, as-shown in Fig.'1.
To use my improvements to lock the upper or the lower sash ofa screen frame tothe stile or the sill-'of the Window frame, the keeper 6 will be secured to the sash or screen 'frame near the upper or lower endthereo and the plate 1- carrying the latch Will be secured to the stile'or sill in such position that the latch button lca n enter'the slot 11 in the top or outer end of the enlargement oi. the keeper, as shown in Fig. 2.
When it is desired to. employ the devices forA locking a door, transom or similar hinged or swinging member, the plate 1- 'carrying the llatchbutton will be secured to 'the door, arf: the keeper will be secured to the casing,-the enlargement 9 of the' keeper being notched into the :frame so as to dispose the base slot 10 in position to reeeive the latch button.
My improvements are simple in construc.
tion; are readily interchangeable .for use in the various Ways specified, and can be easily and quickly applied.
Having full described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. The combination. with a latch button, of a keeper havinga plurality of engaging portions `ada tedfor ,cooperation interchangeably with said-latch button.
' S3. The combination with a latch button, of. a keeper hat ing a plurality o f engaging portions for the button and adapted to be .secured in place to permit any one of said engaging portions to receive the latch button.
3;-The combination with a pivoted latch button, of a keeper having an enlargement provided with aplu'rality of slots open at adaptedto receive said tton acldiilerent 'faces of the keeper, each slot '95' cording to the positienfgivhich the keeper may be secured withrelation to the button.
4. The Acombination with a pivotal latch button, of a keeper comprising a plate prospecification 4in the vided with an enlargement having slots in scribing witnesses. its buse, 'side and outer end, -each of said slots adapted to receive the button, accord- 5- ing to the position in which said keeper may be secured with relation to the button.
V.In testimony whereof, I- have signed this presence of two sub- CORNELIUS F. COURSON.
