means for securing the lower sash in open position and simultaneously securing the upper sash so that it cannot be lowered or opened and neither sash can be displaced after having been locked in the desired position.
A further object is to provide a separable key or lever for operating the sash lock, which key or lever may be removed after the window has been locked with the sash in the desired position, thus providing a further means of safetyin view of the fact that with the key removed an un authorized person or onenot provided with the necessary key could not unlock the window and move the sash.
In carrying out my invention I have shown one form of my device in the accomj anying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my device attached to a window and in locked position. Fig. 2 represents aplan view with the window casing and upper sash in section, the sash lock being in unlocked position. Fig. 3 is a planview of the lock with the upper part of the casing and the key, removed, the bolt membersbeing in unlocked position. Fig. 4; is a view similar to that shown in Fig. 3 with bolt members in looking position. Fig. 5 is an end view with the casingsectioned at 5-5 of Fig. 3. and further serve to secure the device to the window-sash as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
Within the casing 1 bolt members 7 and 8 are slidably mounted preferably in aline ment and adapted to slide in opposite directions. The boit member 7' is provided with a laterally extending lug 9 which is provided. with. a roughened or toothed surface at 10adapted to engage the inner face of the front window stop 11 as indicated in Fig-e1 and 2 of the drawings. The bolt member 8 isprovided with a similar lug 12 having a roughened or toothed surface 13 c oppositely disposed with respect to the surface 10 andadapted to engage the middle window stop 14 when the bolts are in locking position. The bolt 8 is further pro vided with another lug or extension 15 which is roughened or provided withteeth or sim lar devices adapted to engage the inner face of the upper sash 16 which is preferably provided with a metal strip or plate 17 secured thereto by suitable screws 18. The strip or plate 17 is provided with a. plurality of teeth or engaging grooves adapted to cooperate with the end 15 of the bolt member 8. substantially as indicated in Figs. 1 and :2 of the drawings. It will be understood that the metal strip 17 may be of any desired length equal to or less than the length of the upper window sash.
The bolt members 7 and 8 preferably fit in the casing 1 so as to slide longitudinally thereof the bolt member 7 being held in place by "the walls of the casing. The side.

The same wall of the casing l'is cut away at 2:0 to form a slot through which the arm or lug 12 is adapted to project. The end of the casing at 21 is open so as to permit the serrated or toothed end 15 of the bolt 8 to project therethrough in order that it may cooperate with the strip. 17 on the upper sash. receive a finger lever or key member 26 by means of which the cam member may be suitably turned when it is desired to lock or unlock the sash. In order that the bolt members may be withdrawn from locking position I preferably provide the respective boltfmembers 7 and 8 with lugs 7" and 8 projecting longitudinally and adapted to overlap or extend beyond the respective ends of the cam 24;. The lugs are preferably semi-circular on the inside so as to conform with the outer faces of the double cam 24 as indicated in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings. the double cam to contact with the lugs 7 and 8 and simultaneously restore the bolt members 7 and 8 to the normal position indicated in Fig. 3. The key 26, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, maybe of any desired shape or design and, as previously indicated, may be removably attached to the squared shank or pivot 25 secured to the cam 24 and extending outside the casing of the device. Obviously other suitable key arrangement may be devised for operating the cam member 24.
The operation of the device is quite simple and it will be understood that the proportions of the various parts should be properly adjusted or designed to conform to the dimensions of the window to which it is to be attached. When attached it will be seen that when the device is in the position shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings the bolt members are in unlocked position and the engaging members 9 and 12 are out of engagement with the respective window stops l1 and 1 1 and the end 15 of the bolt 8 is out of engagement with the locking strip 17 of the upper sash. After the sashes have been adjusted to the desired position the key or lever 26 is turned to the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings and the sashes are locked together and to the window stops 11 i and 14 by the engagement of the lugs 9 and 12 with the window stops and the toothed end 15 of the bolt 8 with strip 17 on the upper sash. The position of the cam 24 and the bolt members, when in looking position, is shown in Fig. 4 of thedrawings.
Various modifications in the specific detail of the mechanism may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim: 7 v1. A sash lock provided with a casing adapted to be fastened to the top edge of This construction enables the sash maybe locked together and to the' window stops in any desired relative position.

A sash lock provided with a casing lower sash, a notched bar secured to the upper sash,locking members slidably mounted within said casing and'provided with lugs for engaging the casing and parting stops respectively of the window, one of said mem bers having means for engaging the notched bar on the upper sash and a cam for simultaneouslvthrusting said members apart for locking the sash together and to the window stops in any desired relative position.
3. A sash lock provided with a casing adapted to be fastened to the top edge of the lower sash.- a notched bar secured to the upper sash, locking members slidably mounted within said casing and provided with lugs for engaging the casing and parting stops respectively of the window, one of said members having means for engaging the notched bar on the upper sash, a cam for simultaneously thrusting said members apart for locking the sash together and to the window stops in any desired relative position, and manually operable means exteriorof said casing for operating said cam.
4. In a sash lock the combination with a casing adapted to be secured to the top edge of the lower sash. of a notched bar secured to theupper sash, a pair of bolt members slidably mounted in said casing, lugs projecting laterally from said members provided 'with roughened faces adapted to engage the casing and parting stops respectively of the window when, said slidable members are thrust apart, one of said members being provided with an engaging portion adapted to engage the notched bar on V the upper sash simultaneously with the engagement of the window stops by said lugs I. and manually operable means for sliding said bolt members in opposite directions to lock and unlock the sash. v

In a sash lock the'combination with a casing adapted to be secured to the top edge of the lower sash, of a pair of members slidable longitudinally of said casing in opposite directions, lugs extending laterally of the respective members and adapted to engage the window stops when said members are thrust apart, one of said members being provided with a toothed face adapted to project through the casing, a toothed plate on the upper sash frame adapted to be enadapted to-be fastened to the top edge of the casing adapted to be secured to the top edge of the lower sash, of a pair of bolt members slidably mounted therein to be moved in opposite directions, a double cam pivotally mounted within said casing between and adapted to cooperate with said bolts to thrust and hold them apart, oppositely 8X1 tending cam lugs on the inner ends of the respective bolts adapted to cooperate with said cam to retract said bolts and engaging means carried by the respective bolts adapted when said bolts are thrust apart by said cam to lock the sash together and to the casing and parting stops of the window,
