I Eluwul'oz mgwefle am up UNITED STATES PATENT @FIFIQE.
HERMAN M. GREENER, OF STREATOR, ILLINOIS.
PAPER-BAG HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN M. GREENER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Streator, in the county of Lasalle and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Paper-Bag Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a paper bag holder.
The object of the invention is a holder which will carry a large number of paper bags of a given size from which they may be drawn one by one, and which can be quickly unlocked to permit the placing of a new S11)- ply of bags in position, and a still further object of the invention is to provide a convenient supporting frame for the paper bag holders so that a large number of said holders may be grouped conveniently together, each 0 holding a certain size bag.
I'Vith these objects in view the invention consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying draw- :5 m s, in which,
IFigure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of my device, partly broken away. F 2 is a detail perspective view showing one paper bagholder in position. Fig. is an end view :0 0f the device, a portion of the supporting rods being broken away. view of one of the paper bag holders. Fig. 5 is a side elevation showing a modified form of mounting the device.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 26, 1908.
Fig. l is a side edge In constructing the invention I employ two end frames A which are formed by bend- 1 ing metal strips and then carrying them upwardly at a point above the center of the frame as shown at B, securing them to and spacing them apart by means of an upright block C. This forms two open rectangular end frames each of which supports midway its ends the upright C. Sides D are secured to the ends of the frame A and form the side members of the supporting frame. The frame thus formed is supported by bars E which pass through the frames A and by depending bars t which depend from the ceiling. The bars E carry perforated links E which loosely engage the bars E and the bars E carry links a which loosely engage the bars E", so that the bars E are slidably adjustable along the depending bars The bars are locked in their adjusted position relative to each other by means of clamping Patented May 4, 1909.

plates F held in place by the usual bolt and nut.
Upon the side members I) and also u on the outer end face of the upright C, I p ace the paper bag holders G. These holders consist of a spring metal plate II. having an. end aortion I secured to one of the side memers, said portion being arranged vertically, and from the upper end of this secured portion the body portion of the strip extends outwardly a suitable distance and is then bent downwardly as shown at H. The free end portion is bent slightly inwardly and is provided with a key-hole slot J.
A keeper K which may be of spring wire or other suitable material is provided with a pointed end adjacent which is formed a circumferential groove K. The paper bags to be supported are slipped upon the keeper K and the portion II of the bag holder G is bent inwardly over the keeper, the keeper entering the upper end of the key-hole slot J and is then pressed dmvnwardly into the lower portion of the slot, the side walls of which engage the groove K and effectually provents disengagement of the keeper until the metal strip II is drawn downwardly so as to bring the upper end of the slot into alinement with the end of the keeper, when the keeper can be readily disengaged from the end portion II and a new supply of bags placed in position.
In Fig. 5 I have shown a slightly modified form in which the parts above described, that is the bag holders and the frame carrying them, are supported by standards ll extending upwardly from a counter instead of by bars depending from the ceiling. It will be obvious that any convenient number of holders G may be carried by such a frame and I also prefer to place numerals above the holders to indicate the size of the bags, so that the clerk can detach a one or two pound bag without having to examine it in order to ascertain its size.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the kind described comprising metal end frames having their end portions bent upwardly midway the ends of the frames, a vertically arranged block extending from one frame to the other and having its end portions held between the upturned end portions of the frames, side members connecting the ends of said frames, and bag bars de ending from a ceiling, links carried holding devices carried by said side members by saidars respectively, the link carried by and by the upright block. i one bar working loosely upon the other, and
2. A device of the kind described coml clamping lates for locking the bars secured prising metal end frames, the end portions of I to the endi frames in their adjusted position, the strip forming said frames being bent upas and for the purpose set forth.
wardly from the upper side of the frame and HERMAN M GREENER at a point midway its ends, an upright block eld between said upwardly bent por- Witnesses: tions, side members secured to the ends of A. B. MOON,
the frames, bars secured to said end frames, H. P. SHAUMAN.
