To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES AUBERLIN, citizen of the United States, residing at Dear-born, in the county of Vayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lrlusic- Leaf Turners, of which the following is a specification.

This invention'relates to music leaf turners, and has for its object to provide an improved device of the kind which may be attached to the front or music board of piano or the like when in use, and which is capable of being removed and folded to occupy small space when not in use.

The device has various advantages of construction as will more fully appear from the following description.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation thereof, partly in section and with some of the arms in folded position. Fig. 2 is a top view. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section from front to rear. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line i-t of 3. Figs. 5 and 6 are details respectively of a connecting piece and a turning rod to be hereinafter described.

Referring specifically to the drawings, I indicates an inverted cupshaped casing adapted to fit upon the base X of the front or music board of the piano, and it has a groove at 2' which engages over the rib 02 on the board. At the front the casing has a clip K, operated by a spring L, and adapted to engage the edge of the music rest, as clearly shown in F J is an upright tube, oval. in cross section, fixed at its lower end to the casing I. This tube contains a desired number of turning rods D the lower ends of which are provided with forwardly projecting arms C which are adapted to be engaged by detents B which are pivoted at 7) to the wall of the casing. The detents are engaged and operated by the inner ends of key levers A which act to turn said detents on their pivots and release the arms (J. The detents are beveled as at b to enable the arms to be engaged or caught by the detents when they are set or turned to the right. Coiled springs E are connected at one end to the arms and at the other end to the side of the casing, and act to swing said arms and turn the rod D when the detents are released.

l I l l I l l l l l f i I l I i At the top the rods D are connected to or carry arms F at the ends of which are clips ii for engaging the music leaves. The inner ends of the arms F fit in sockets j in connecting pieces Y which are fixed to the rods D, the outer connecting pieces being curved, as shown in Fig. 2, .to fit or swing around each other. The arms F are attached to the pieces Y by means of pins g which extend through slots Z in the ends of said an 1s, and said pieces Y are slotted as inclicated at 3 at the connection. By this means the arms F may be pulled out to the extent permitted by the slots Z, allowing said arms to swing or drop down parallel to the tube 5; or they may be swung up to horizontal position and then pushed into the sockets F, engaging the ends thereof in said sockets and holding the arms in horizontal position ready for use.

The upper end of the tube J is provided with a bracket 9 which has similar sockets and hinge joints connecting the arms G which extend in opposite directions therefrom; and these arms are also provided with clips H. These arms G do not swing from right to left, but are for the purpose of holding the covers and unused leaves of the music book. But by pulling out the arms they may be dropped to folded position in the same manner as the arms F above described.

The casing has on the top a pin M to hold the bottom of the book or sheet.

In use, the apparatus is set up on the front board of the instrument and the arms F and G are swung up and fixed in horizontal position, the arms F being swung to the right and the clips fastened to the sheets of music, and they are held in that position by the engagement of the detents B. By operating the keys A the detents are re leased and the arms swung to the left in consequence of the springs E, thereby turning the sheets in succession. lVhen the arms are folded the device may be conveniently carried in a music roll, satchel or any package in the hand.
