Like letters .indicate like parts in each tigure.
The nature of this invention relates to an improvement in scrubbing and mopping-machines, being automatic in its operation, and consists in mounting upon a proper frame, provided with suitable brushes, watertank, Sac., surmounting proper traction-wheels, as hereinafter described.
A, in the drawings, represents a proper frame, to which are attached the traction-wheels B and B.
Wheel'B is placed upon a short axle, which is rigidly attached to the under side of frame A, so that the wheel may rotate freely upon said axle.
The shaft C, iig. 3, is jonrualled to the under side of the frame, to the outer end of which is rigidly fastened the traction-wheel B', While its inner end carries the bevel-gear wheel D.
The standard E is firmly secured to the frameA, so that the bevel-gear wheel F on its lower. end will engage with the gear-wheel D.
Attached to the lower sidevof the wheel F are arms which carry the brushes G, as shown.
To the rear end of the frame A is pivotedthe frame H, the lower part of which is provided with a mopjaw, I, to receive the sponge J, or other suitable ma;- terial, the same being held in place by proper thumbscrews.
K isa spring, one end of which is attawhedl to 'the frame A, while its lower end presses against the mop, to keep the saine to its work.
The water-tank L is placed upon the frame A, and is provided with the outlet-pipe M, said pipe being provided with a stop-cock, N, for the purpose of regulating the flow of water. i
O is a handle att-ached to one end of the machine, for-the purpose of operating the same.
A standard, P, provided withv a caster-wheel 4on its lower end, is attached to the rear part of the'machine,
for the purpose of sustaining the same.
rlo operate this invention, it is necessary to iill the tank L with water; then, by drawing or pushing the Vmachine over the area to be cleaned, the brushes are caused to revolve, thus effectnally doing the work as is intended.
lVhat we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The brushes G and the mop-jaw I, when constructed, arranged, and operating 4substantially asset Witnesses Guns. ADQLPHI, H. E. SMITH.
