DOOR OR WINDOW HINGE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LJOHANN JORDAN, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of Crefeld, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door or Window Hinges, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in door or window hinges, and more particularly to an improved device for fixing the same in any desired position.
The accompanying drawing shows the improved device.
Figures 1 and 2 are respectively a front view in inoperative position, and a sectional front view in operative position, of the same as mounted on a door hinge, and Figs. 3 to 5 show details of the device.
The hinge comprises in the known manner the lower fixed leaf a with the pintle b, and the upper movable leaf 0 with the knuckle e mounted on said pivot. 0n the upper end of said knuckle e a collar d with toothed upper face f is rigidly fixed (see Fig. 5), while the upper end of the pintle b terminates in a toothed pin it which is flattened at two op aosite sides (see Fig. l). On the latter a col ar 9 having a toothed lower face corresponding to the upper face of the collar d, is mounted so as to be capable of moving in axial direction but, on account of the flattened sides of the pin 7t, prevented from rotation. A spring Z encircling the pin it intervenes between both collars so as to keep them apart in their inoperative position.
In the hook of the pin 70 an angular lever 'i (see Fig. 3) is by means of a pivot is attached in such a manner that upon the device being in inoperative position (see Fig. 1) its short arm lies with its outer edge on the movable Specification of Letters Patent.

To put the device in operative position (see Fig. 2) the lever is turned on its fulcrum until the outer edge of the longer arm lies flat on the movable collar Thereby, the adjacent toothed faces of the two collars are on account of the angle lever having an eccentric fulcrum, c. g. the latter being arranged farther away from the edge of the long arm than from that of the short arm-caused to catch into each other so that no further turning of the movable leaf is possible, the door or window being thus fixed in position.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a door or window hinge, a device for fixing the same in any position, comprising in combination with the lower fixed leaf having a pintle, and the upper movable leaf having a knuckle mounted on said bolt; a collar rigidly fixed on top of said knuckle and provided with a toothed upper face, a hooked pin rigidly fixed on top of said pintle and provided with two op )osite flattened sides, another collar provider with a toothed lower face and mounted on said pin so as to be capable of moving in axial direction but prevented from rotation, a spring to intervene between both collars, and an angle-lever fulcrumed in the hook of said pin and having an eccentric fulcrum, all for the purpose set forth.
