PATENT OFFIU I3.
BENJAMIN STONE GORE, OF JOHNSON CITY, TENNESSEE.
TYPE-WRITER CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 18, 1908.
Patented Feb. 16, 1909.
Serial No. 449,057.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN STONE I GORE, a citizen of the United States, re-
siding at Johnson City, in the county of Washington and State of Tennessee, have invented new and useful Improvements in Type-Writer Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to receptacles, and more particularly to a case adapted for the reception of a typewriter, and has for an object to provide a case which will be simple in construction and which will be so arranged that the weight of the typewriter will be equally distributed.
A further object of this invention is to provide a typewriter case in which the handle for carrying the same is disposed at one end of said case and to provide a case that can be carried in a convenient manner and out of contact with the person.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent as the nature of the invention is better disclosed, and it will he understood that changes within the claim may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the case, Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view through the same, Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, there is shown a typewriter case comprising two sections 2 and 3 which are hingedly connected to each other as shown at 4. The section 2 comprises vertical end Walls 5, a bottom 6, a to 7, and side wall 8, as shown. The end wa ls 5 are preferably cut away as indicated at 9 to receive por= tions of the section 3 to be hereinafter described. The section 3 comprises a vertical wall 10, a top wall 11, end walls 12, and a vertically disposed member 13 carried by the top 11 which is adapted to lie against portions of the walls 5 and top 7 of the section 2 when the case is in a closed position as shown in the drawings. The member 13 carries adjacent to each of its ends a hook 14, and said hooks are removably engaged with screws or studs 15 projecting from the top 7 of the section 2. he top 7 of the section 2 carries a suitable lock 16 to be engaged with the member 13 of the section 3 to securely hold the case in a locked position. The top 11 of the said section 3 carries a handle 17 disposed in a longitudinal plane with respect to said top whereby the weight of the typewriter within the case is equally distributed to effectively balance the case when held by said handle. The inner edges of the ends 12 of the section 3 are disposed outwardly of the edges of the walls 5 of the section 2 and the edges of walls 12 lie against beads 18 carried by the walls 5. The member 13 is provided with beads 19 adapted to lie outwardly of portions of said walls 5 adjacent to the upper ends thereof. The section 2 has one of its walls provided with a bracket 20 having a headed portion 21. to receive the inner edge of a hollow body 22 carried by one wall 12 of the section 3, and this hollow body communicates with the interior of the case, as shown. The other wall 5 of section 2 is provided with a similar body 23, and the other wall 12 of the section 3 is provided with a hollow body 24 adapted to aline with and communicate with the body 23. The bodies 23 and 24 are arranged opposite to the body 22, and said bodies are adapted to receive the projecting portions of the frame of a typewriter, not shown. The side wall 8 of the section 2 is provided with a plurality of socket members 25 adapted to receive the feet of the typewriter, and the wall 10 of the section 3 carries brackets 26 to engage the carriage and other operative parts of a typewriter and thus effectively hold the typewriter against movement while in said case.
hen it is desired to use the case it will of course, be understood that the two members of the same are swung away from each other to enable the insertion of a typewriter, and during this operation it may be mentioned that the wall 8 of the section 2 is placed in a horizontal position and may rest upon a suitable support.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In a typewriter case of the portable type, hingedly connected sections, a plurality of typewriter feet receiving socket members carried by one of said sections, typewriter carriage engaging brackets carried by the other section adapted when the case is in a closed position to hold the feet of the typewriter engaged in said socket members, alinlng hollow bodies carried by one of said. 560- l at right angles to the said carriage engaging tions for recelvlng pr0 eot1ng end portlons of brackets. a typewriter freme,'means carried by the ad- In Witness whereof I afiiX my signature in jacent section for closing the said hollow 5 presence of two Witnesses. bodies when the case is in a closed position, BENJAMIN STONE GORE.
means for holding said sections locked to W itnesses: each other, and a handle carried by one of W. N. BELEW, said sections at the top thereof and cllsposecl F P. GRAY.
