Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 16, 1909.
Application filed mm 19, 1908. Berla1No.468,447.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that l, Eli-1 A It'LI-IS J] harm, a citizen of the United btatcs, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Garment-Supporters; and I. do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the numerals of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent ill--- Figure 1 a front view of a garment supporter constructed in accordance with my invention, and showing the loop gngaged with the column. Fig. 2 a front view of the button member detached. Fig. ii -a side view of the button member showing it attached to webbing. Fig. 4 a. perspective View of the button member detached, and with the rubber column removed. 1
This. invention nelates to an improvement in garment supporters, and particularly to that class which includes a loop member contracted at its lower end, to engage with a button member over which the fabric to be gripped is passed, the object of the invention being to form the button member from wire and )rovide a rubber bearing surface against which the sides of the loop will grip the fabric; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention I employ a loop 2 of usual construction formed from wire or sheet metal, and having its lower end contracted to form sides 3, 3. The button member is formed from a single piece of wire bent to form loops 4, 5, so that the device may be attached to a piece of webbing in the usual manner of hose supporters of this type. Between the loops 4, 5, portions of the wires are bent upward to form posts 6, 7, 8 and 9, the posts 6 and 8 being connected by a substantially semicircular bend 10, and the posts 7 and 9 being connected by a similar bent portion 11, the portions 10 and 11 standing in a plane at right angles to the plane of the posts and forming a clreular head. Inserted between the posts andclam ed thereby is a column 12 of rubber. his column is crowded upward between the posts and through the head and is preferably made tapering so as to be larger at its lower end to prevent. its withdrawal throu h the head, although the posts may be crow ed so close together as to firmly grip the column. The outer end, of this column projects beyond the head of the button and provides a rubber surface over which the fabric may be drawn while the sides of the column are exposed between the posts below the head so that the fabric placed over the head will be gripped between the column and the loop.
The head overlapping the sides of the loop will prevent its removal except by movement which will pass thecontracted sides of the loop beyond the head.
I claim l. A garment supporter comprisin loops, posts and head formed from a single piece of wire, a rubber column located between said posts, combined with a loop member having a contracted end adapted to be drawn onto the column beneath said head, substantially as described. 2. A garmentsupportcr comprisin loops, posts and head formed from a singfe piece of wire, a rubber column located between the said pests and projecting above said head, combined with a loop member having a contracted end adapted to be drawn onto the column beneath said head, substantially as described.
3. A garment supporter comprising loops, posts and head formed from a single piece of wire, a rubber column located between the said posts and projecting above said head, said column larger in diameter at its lower end than at its outer end, combined with a. loop member having a contracted end adapted to be drawn onto the column beneath said head, substantially described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES J. W'HITE. Vitnesscs Kariismun A. W 0005, W. L. HATCH.
