To all whom it mag concern:

Be it known that I, MICHAEL J. RAU, a citizen of the United States, residing at Garden Plain, in the county of Sedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Winker for Harness, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to harness blinders for horses, andhas especial reference to the connection of the brace with the blinder.

The invention has for its object to provide a blinder for'horses having the brace so connected to the blinder as to prevent the brace from being torn'fromthe blinder.

The invention consists of a blinder for horses having an improved connection of the blinder with the brace, as hereinafter set forth and claimed.

Referring to the accompanying drawings,

Figure 1 is a side view in elevation of a blinder for horses, showing the improved connection of the brace therewith. Fig. 2 is a perspective view in elevation showing the connection of the blinder and brace partly separated.

The invention is carried out as follows;

1 is a blinder for horses provided with the usual cheek strap, 2 the'blinder is formed of two parts as usual, and sewed together.

In the ordinary construction 'of'blinders one end of the brace is inserted between the two parts of the blinder at its upper outer corner, and the brace is secured between the edges of the two artsof the blinder by the single line of stitc ling which secures the two parts of the blinder together. In this con struction the brace is secured to the blinder by only a single line of. three or four stitches extending across the brace. This forms a weak connection permitting the brace to be frequently torn from the blinder. This invention is intended to overcome this fault and provide a construction which will pre vent the brace from being torn from the blinder. The blinder 1 has its upper outer corner preferably formed with the ear or extended portion 3 com osed of the two flaps 4, projecting from t e two parts .5 of the blinder. The brace 6 is preferably formed at one end with the enlarged flattened portion 7 with diverging tapering edges 8 thereby affording sides thereof.

This is accomplished as follows:

a structure which will aid in preventing the brace from bein torn off of the blinder as hereinafter exp ained. The end of the brace fibeing placed in the osition shown in Fig. 2 at'the corner of the linder so as to project between the flaps 4 and parts 5 the flaps 4 and parts 5 are secured together by a line of stitching 9 extending at the points 10 on the flaps 4 along side of and close to the brace 6 and at the point 11 across the brace 6 securing the latter to the flaps 4 by stitches, and also holding the brace 6 between the flaps 4 by the stitching extending along the The brace 6 is further secured to the blinder by another line of stitching as at 12 which extends across the enlarged portion 7 of the brace, and further secures the brace to the flaps 4 by stitching. By means of this connection of the brace to the blinder as hereinbefore set forth the brace will be firmly fastened to the blinder, the brace being secured to the blinder at two points by rows of stitching and further held in place by the flap enlarged portion 7 with tapering edges 8 which with the stitching at the points 11 along side of the brace serves to effectively hold the brace to the blinder and prevent its being pulled or torn off from the blinder.

Having described the invention I claim,

An improved blinder for horses consisting of a pair of flaps, each having an upwardly and outwardly extending ear formed thereon, and a brace held between the ears and the portion of the flaps adjacent thereto and provided with diverging tapered edges, a rpw of stitching extending around the periphery of the body portion of said flaps and passing through the end of the brace, and a second row of stitching extending around the periphery of the ears in juxtaposed position to the sides of the said brace and passing at the outer end of the ears through the brace.
