Description

v Patented December 8, 1903.
PATENT OFFICE.
vGEORGE A. FRISBIE, OF U'IIOA, NEW YORK.
UNDERGARM ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 746,060, dated December 8, 190'3.
Application filed November 15, 1901. Serial No. 82.373. (No model.) I
To all whom w/tay con/cern,.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. FRIsBIE,of Utica, in the county of Oneida, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Undergarments, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in union undergarm ents, having more particular reference to that class which are adapted to be put onto the person through an opening in the rear.
My object is to produce such a garment,
vhaving a closed front and provided with means for closing the aperture at the rear,'so as to inclose that portion of the body, cheap in construction and easy of access; and to that' end my invention consists in the several new and novel features of construction, which are hereinafter described, and more specifically s et forth in the claim hereunto annexed.` It is constructed as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which-Y Figure l is a front View of the garment complete. Fig. 2 vis a rear vienr thereof, showing the folds which inclose the aperture open and ready for access. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the folds closed as it would appear when in use. Fig. 4 is a cross-section on line m, Fig. 3, except that the arms of the garment are omitted and the tape which surrounds the body to hold the flaps closed are shown loose.
Similar reference -letters indicate corresponding parts.-
a is an ordinary union suit constructed in the ordinary way having the neck-opening a and a closed front from the neck portion down to the crotch, as shown in Fig. 1. The rear portion is provided with a longitudinal opening b, extending from about the middle of the back at a point b down to the crotch, and to each edge of this opening is secured a triangular strip or flapV c, 'and the lower edge of the flaps are secured across the crotch at substantially right angles when in use to the opening b, as shown at c' in Fig. 2, so that when the garment has been placed upon the person ofthe user the outer edges of the iaps will lap one upon the other, as shown in Fig. 3, and the lower ends of the flap will form a body when in use.
fullness for the rear portion of the body and 'afford room for easy action of the body. The forward ends of the flaps terminate a little to the rear of the forward end of the crotchopening, whereby when the Iiaps are overlapped, as shown in Fig. l, an opening h for an obvious purpose will at all times be provided.
For the purpose of holdingthe aps one upon the other when inuse- I have shown strings d d', the string d being attached to the edge Yof the one flap, and while the string d is attached to the-edge of the other ap it passes thence through an aperture e in the body ofthe garment upon the opposite sides, so that when the strings are passed around the body in opposite directions they will draw the ilaps Itogether and hold them securely about v the I do not limit myself to this particular method of securing the aps about the body, as it will be evident that other means may be provided for accomplishing the same purpose.
Having thus described my inventiomwhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A union garment having a closed front and an opening in the back thereof, said opening extending from the middle of the back to a pointin front of the crotch, iaps secured to y the edges of said opening, said flaps being approXimately triangular in shape and tapering from their upper ends whereby their widest portions are arranged adjacent the crotch of the garment, the lower edge of said iaps being secured across the lower end of the opening at substantially right angles to that portion of the opening in the back of the garment, thereby providing a fullness at the rear of the gar,- ment, said iiaps normally overlapping each other, and strings attached to said flaps, one of said strings passing in front of the other flap and through an opening in the garment to one side of other flap, substantially as and for thev purpose specified,
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my Witnesses:
HOWARD P. DENIsoN, MILDEED M. NoT'T.
