lre it known that l', Nn'ivrm l-l. Cirnnnnach. a citizen ot' the llnited States, residing at Los A\n eles. in the county ot' Los ngeles and State ol California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sunbonnets, of which the t'ollmviug is a specification.

'l'he object' of this invention is to provide a snnbouuet willi a wide flare in front, there being a combination otl a number ot' parts to ell'ect this end. The lront piece, or vizor, is cut. in a peculiar configuration and the crown piece. is so `gathered and held as to force the trout piece to assume a widely flared position. 'lhe crown piece is gathered around a resilient member which adapts the bonnet to ditl'ereut sized heads and the resilient member is made removable. so that the body parts ot the bonnet may be washed.

ln the drawings 5 designates the front piece or vizor which is preferably made of rice straw matting as that material affords protection from the heatof the sun and is extremely light. and flexible. r1`his vizor is crescentl shape and is provided with a binding 6 a-rouud its entire edge, the binding widening as at T at the corners or ends of the crescentl shaped vizor where bonnet strings S are attached, this widening portion altording reinforcement to the straw matting to prevent its being torn by any excessive pull upon strings S. Crown piece 9 is `cut in an oval or elliptical shape and is sewn to the concave edge of viZor 5 along a line of stitching l0, the stitching passing through the crown piece back of its edge the edge being rutiied as at 11. Cape piece 12 is cut in a somewhat rectangular form with rounded corners and is sewn to the crown piece. along two lines of stitching 13' so that a easing l-t is left between the crown and cape pieces between these two lines of stitching. A strip 15 of rubber fabric is inserted in casing l-l and is provided with eyelets '1G on its ends adapted to engage with snap hooks 1T secured to the ends or corners of crescent shaped vizor a. The end pieces of cape piece l2 a re secured to the corner of the vizor as shown most. clearly in Fig. 4l, strings S being also secured near the corners. A rutlie 1S is placed around the convex or front and bottom edges of.l the. vizor to finish the bonnet.

Then resilient strip l5 is in place the two ends ot the crescent .shaped vizor are drawn closely together and the whole bonnet assumes the position shown in Fig.. l, the bot.-

tom part of the. crown piece and the upper part of the cape piece being held closely to the back of the weare1"sl head and the front part of the vizor flared outwardly. The crescent shape of the. vizor brings its ends behind the wearers ears as illustrated in dotted lilies in Fig. 1 and strings 8 also at tached to the vizor behind the ears. v0n account of this position any tightening of the strings immediately draws the rear and bottom portions ot the vizor together and against the wearers head so that the upper' and side portions are greatly flared. The portions of the vizor directly opposite the ears are also tiared out on account of the above provision and the ears are thereby lett free from any covering which might hinder or impair the hearing. Further it will be noted that the wide vtiare of the front of the bonnet. affords access for the atmosphere and does not tightly inclose the wearers head, thus providing a cool head gear at all times. y

From the foregoing description it will be seen that my invention consists in the described combination and arrangement of parts to provide a bonnet. which fits closely in the rear and flares widely in front. This provision depends essentially upon the crescent shapedI front piece or vizor and the resilient. strip 15 which holds the bach of the bonnet close to the wearers head. The effeet is increased further by the attachment of the bonnet strings to a point on the vizor at the place where they will pull the rearmost portions of the vizor inwardly and against the wearers head. All these combinations have been provided in an easily constructed and handy manner. The bonnet may be rolled up and thus placed in a small compass for transportation and it may be also laundered very easily. The rice straw matting used in the. construction of the bonnet is very flexible in a line transverse to the direction of its straws and it therefore lenfls itself very readily to the operations of rolling or laundering.

Having flescrlbed my lnvention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters latent is:-

1. A bonnet, comprising a crescent shaped vizor, and a removable resilient connecting member between the lends of the crescent.

2. A bonnet, comprising a crescent shaped vizor, a removable resilient connecting meinber between the ends of the crescent, and bonnet securing strings attached to the crescent near the ends thereof.

3. 'A bonnet, comprising a crescent shaped vizor, a. crown piece secured thereto, a removable resilient connecting member between the ends of the corner piece, the crown piece being gathered alon the resilient member, sind bonnet securlng strings attached to the crescent near the ends thereof.
