Be it known that l, DAVID SHELTON BARNES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Watkins, in the county of Schuyler and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Neckties, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to neckties and more particularly to that type Jwhich are commercially known on the market as ready made ties.
. rl`he principal object of the invention is to produce a novelty in the form of ready made ties and to provide means for retaining the neck band in position upon the main end of the tie. y
A further object of the invention is to provide a tie having the neck band so connected to the knot that it may bev removed whereby several different shades of neck bands may be employed with a single scarf and whereby the neck band is passed down in front of the main end portion of the tie.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which formsa part of this application, and in which v Figure 1 is a ront elevation.A Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail vertical sectional view showing one method of connecting the neck band within the knot. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of a modilied'form.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, l represents a knot which is constructed in any suitable manner so as to have the usual shape of the four in hand knot and attached thereto is the end 2 which preferably is of the same shade as the knot. The neck band is shown at 3 and consists of an elongated narrow strip of material preferably of a shade to contrast with the shade of the knot and the end and having arranged at its terminal a hook or other suitable connecting device 4 adapted to engage an eye 5 or other companion connector arranged within the knot l. The tree end of the neck band is preferably provided with a stiiening member (not shown) so that it may be inserted through the knot l and in this instance instead of passing down behind the main end 2 the passage through the knot 1 is so arranged that the free end of the neck band is caused to pass down through the knot and over the front of the main end A2, as shown in Fig. l. By this arrangement a necktie is provided in which the main portion 2 may be interchangeably used with a number of stripsB. The strip 3 is preferably made of washable material and a single knot may be used with any one of a plurality of strips. -The strips 3 may be made of various colors or designs and by changing the strips and using the one knot, the eli'ect of an entire new tie is produced. rlhis is made possible by placing the strip 3 in front of the end 2, and particular stress is laid upon this feature of the invention. The free end of the strip 3 is retained in position by transverse strips 6 and 7 through which or between which and the end 2 the free end of the neck band is passed. Preferably it is irst carried down behind the strips 6 and 7, then looped up over the outside ront the strip 7 and carried through lthe strip 6 or between the strip 6 and the main portion of the neck band, allowingI the sti d? ened end to hang or be supported upon the strip 6, as will be readily understood from an inspection of F ig. l.
ln the structure shown in the modilication of F ig. i the knot 2 is omitted and the tie is simply constructed of a strip of material shown at 8 which is provided on its rear side with avhook or eye which is connected to the companion member carried by the neck band 9. The front'of the strip is provided adjacent its upper end with a` guiding strip or loop member 10 through which the neck band 9 passes and the lower end of the tie is constructed in a similar manner to that shown in Fig. 1, z'. e. with strips 6 and -7 to receive the terminal end of the neck band. This particular type of tie is employed only where turned over collars are worn which meet in the front closely so as to conceal the ordinary knot.
