Be it known that we, ALFRED if. OLSON, a citizen of the United States, and PEDER LI- Bak, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at Madelia, in the county of Vatonwan, State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Barrel-Head, of which the following is a specification.
rlhis invention has relation to barrel heads, and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts, as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a barrel head with a chamber in which may be located a permanently attached faucet, having a hose section attached thereto. The said chamber is of sufficient area to receive the faucet and the said hose section, so that -the said faucet and hose section may lie entirely within the general perimeter of the head. The chamber is provided with a screw-tln'eaded side wall and a cap is adapted to engage the said screw-threaded wall and forms a closure for the chamber and means for protecting the faucet and the hose section when located in the chamber.

The barrel head l is provided at one side with he relatively7 thick portion 2, in which is cut a chamber 3. rlhe said chamber 3 opens into the outer surface of the head l, but does not extend entirely through the thickened portion 2 of the said head. The chamber 3 is `provided with a circular threaded wall e. The port 5 is in communication at one end with the interior of the barrel to which the head l is applied, and at its opposite end communicates with the interior of the chamber The port 5 is lined with a bushing of brass or other material as at 5 and is adapted to receive the threaded shank of the faucet 6, and the said faucet is provided with a tapered valve 7, which, in turn, is provided with a handle 8. The said valve 7 has a transverse passage 9 opening into a threaded tubular extension 9 upon which is screwed one end of the hose section l0. The area of the chamber 3 is sufficient to hold the valve 6 and the hose section l0, and the cap 11 is provided with a threaded annular flange 12, which is adapted to engage the thread of the wall A of the chamber 3. The
cap 1l is provided with the wrench-receiving socket 13. lVhen the cap 1l is in position over the outer end of the chamber 3 the outer side of the said cap is substantially flush, or occupies the same plane as that occupied by the outer side of the said barrel head l, and the faucet 6 and the hose section l0 are completely housed under the said cap and within the chamber 3, as indicated.
Barrels which are supplied with heads as above described are especially adapted to be used by retail merchants and others handling commodities such, for instance, as gasolene, kerosene and similar liquids, and, as soon as the barrel is set up in place, the cap ll may be removed and the contents drawn from the barrel through the faucet 6 and the hose section l0. Thus it will be seen that the contents of the barrel may be drawn olf at short notice, without requiring the starting of bungs, or the application of faucets, thereby saving considerable time in retailing commodities as named. lVhen the barrel is being shipped the cap 1l is applied to the chamber 3, when the faucet 6 and the hose section l0 are protected, and, at the same time, the capacity of the barrel is not diminished to any appreciable degree.
Having described the invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure, by Letters Patent, is
A barrel head having at one end a thickened portion provided with a circular counter-sunk chamber having a threaded annular side wall, the bottom of said chamber being provided with an eccentrically positioned port, which communicates with the interior of the barrel, a valved faucet located in the chamber and inserted in the port, a flexible hose attached to the faucet and adapted to lie within the chamber, and a cap having a. threaded flange for engagement with the threads in the side wall of the chamber, and adapted to house the faucet and the flexible hose within the chamber.
