To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY STnLoK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Removable Faucets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to faucets for barrels or other receptacles, and it has for its object to provide a construction in which the faucet can be placed in a barrel in a predetermined position and then looked in place without disturbing its predetermined position.
Oils and other liquids are usually shipped in metal barrels or containers, and when the barrels or containers arrive at their destination the consignee usually empties the con tents of the barrels or containers into other tanks or receptacles having a pump or faucetby which the liquid can be withdrawn from the dispensing tank as occasion requires.
To avoid the necessity of transferring the oils or liquids from the shipping barrels or containers into dispensing tanks or receptacles, and to enable the shipping barrel to be used also as the dispensing tank my invention contemplates providing the shipping barrel with a plug or bung provided with a temporary cap or closure which can be removed when the barrel reaches its destination and replaced with a dispensing faucet, means being provided for tightly securing the faucet in a predetermined position with its bib properly disposed for delivering the contents of the barrel in accordance with the demands for dispensing the oils or liquid from the tank.
By my invention the shipping barrel or container is made to also constitute the dispensing tank and the dispensing faucet is secured thereto in the proper position and in a manner to form an absolutely tight, nonleakable connection between the faucet and the barrel plug or bung.
An illustration of the preferred form of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and in which:

In the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 designates a metallic barrel or package of a form commonly employed for con taining oils, although the barrel may be of any approved type and material. The numeral 2 designates a metallic bung or plug which is inserted through an opening in the barrel and is provided at one end with a flange 3 adapted to bear against the head of the barrel and to be brazed or soldered or otherwise secured thereto, and at its other end is provided with any suitable form of faucet-seat 41- which in the form illustrated has a raised surface 5 on its inner face against which may bear a suitable washer or packing ring 6, against which the inner end of the dispensing faucet 7 will be tightly clamped when in position. The barrel bung or plug 2 is interiorly threaded, and the stem of the faucet 7 is exteriorly threaded, the threads of one being reverse of the other, for instance the threads 8 of the bung may be left-hand threads, and the threads 9 of the faucet may be right-hand threads, and be tween the bung and the stem of the faucet there is inserted an internally and externally threaded metallic bushing 10 which at its outer end may be formed with an angular flange 11 for the application thereto of a wrench, the exterior and interior threads of the bushing corresponding to the threads of the barrel plug and the dispensing faucet with which they respectively engage.
The purpose of forming the barrel plug and the dispensing faucet with oppositely disposed or reverse screw threads and providing the bushing with corresponding threads is to insure the faucet being held in place in a predetermined position, and so as to form an absolutely non-leakable joint or connection between the faucet and the bung. Ordinarily these dispensing faucets are formed with a bib 12 and for the proper discharge of the liquid being dispensed the bib should extend downwardly. If the faucet were screwed directly into the bung or plug there would be no certainty as to the bib standing in its proper position when the end of the faucet is brought tightly against its seat, and if the faucet be more or less turned to bring the bib in the proper position then there would be no tight fit bebung or plug and the faucet are made of the same length or not, for all barrels, because by reason of the plug and the faucet being formed with reverse screw threads and the bushing formed with corresponding threads the faucet can be screwed into position and then by screwing the bushing the faucet may be further adjusted in a straight line without rotation so as to bring its end tightly against its seat without changing the predetermined position of the bib.
The faucet is illustrated as provided with a valve 13 at its throat and bib so as to control the out-flow of the liquid but this is a common construction and forms no part of the invention. For transportation purpose the barrel plug or bung may be provided with a cap or closure 14 which may be screwed either into the bushing 11 or if that be omitted into the barrel bung or plug, and when the barrel is used for dispensing purposesthis cap will be replaced with the dispensing faucet or with the faucet and bushing as needed.
i I have illustrated and described with particularity the preferred form and details of construction of various parts of the device but it is obvious that changes can be made without departing from the essential features specified in the appended claims.
Having described my invention and set forth its merits what I claim is:
1. The combination with an internally screw threaded barrel bung or plug having an inwardly extending seat at its inner end, of an internally and externally screw threaded bushing for the same operable from the face of the bung, the external threads of the bushing corresponding to those in the bung and the internal threads being the reverse of the external threads and adapted to receive an externally threaded member and draw it inwardly, substantially as described.
2. The combination of an internally screw threaded barrel bung or plug, an internally and externally threaded bushing, and an externally threaded faucet, the threads on the bung and on the faucet being the reverse of each other and the threads of the bushing corresponding with those of the bung and faucet respectively, said bushing being operable from the face of the bung to draw the faucet inwardly and lock it in place, substantially as described.
