' CLIP FOR FOUNTAIN-PENS, 80c
fiiprecification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 19, 1909.
a arent) mm May 18, 1908. Serial No. 433,417.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN BLAIR, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, Brooklyn, county of Kings, Stal s of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clips for Fountain-Pens and Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a clip adapted to engage a fountain pen or similar article, and to secure the same, in a. convenient and reliable manner, to the pocket of the wearer.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a side view of my improved clip, showing it in engagement with a fountain pen; Fig. 2 a top view of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 a front View of the clip, and Fig. t a side view of the clip, showing it in use.
The clip is composed of a continuous length of wire bent to form an open loop and a finger integral with the loop. As shown, the wire is first bent-into circular form, as at 10, to form a single open loop, the ends of which are spaced as at 11. The two opposed ends of circular wire-section '10 are then bent downwards as at 12, to
form the two shanks of an integral U-shaped finger which joins the loop at in acute angle, (Fig. 1). The finger wire-secti as 12 are thus also spaced on top, while hey are bent towards each other at the bottom and are here surrounded by a tubular sleeve 13. endless and the loop-section thereof is readily expansible to tightly grasp articles In this way the entire clip is made finger-section will be bent outward.
of different diameters. The finger-sec ion of the clip is convex, as at 1%, to form. a. hearing.
In use, 'the loop-section of the clip is slipped over a fountain pen or similar article 15, and then the latter is placed into the pocket of a garment 1G, in such a way that the finger-section of the clip projects outwardly from the pocket and bears with its convexity against the front' llap 17 thereof; During this manipulation, the (full lines Fig. l), to an extent corres 'ionding to the thickness of the cloth, so that in this way the Loop-section of the clip will be tightened around the fountain pen to securely hold it in position. An upward pull on the fountain pen and clip will readily disengage the latter from the garment, so that the device may be readily withdrawn.
I claim:
A device of the character described, comprising an endless wire forming a single loop having opposed spaced ends, and a Ushaped convex finger, the two shanks of which join the two spaced loop-ends at an acute angle to the loop, substantially as specified.
Signed by me at New York city, (Manhattam) N. Y., this 16th day of May, 1908.
JOHN BLAIR.
