This invention relates to improvements in cribs, the primaryobject of the invention beof which the following 1s a specificaing to provide a crib embodying a supporting frame and a crib body adaptedto be arranged alongside abedstead, the crib body being adjustable on the frame to suit beds of different heights and provided at one or `both sides with a swinging dooror closure which, when the device is arranged in position adjacent to the bed, may belet down over upon the bed, so that the child mal be conveniently moved fromjthe crib to the liability of injury.
A further object of the invention is to provide a crib of this character in which the crib body isrpivo'tally mounted upon its supporting frame so that it may be rocked by the parent or nurse occupying the bed, the pivotal su ports being of such ty e as to perm-it vertica adjustment of the crib body and its ready removal and application as occasion requires.
-A still further object of the invention is to provide means for adjustably connecting the crib frame to the bed frame, so that the crib as a whole may be held from shifting or moving away from the bed while the crib .body is being rocked.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in whichz- Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the crib disposed alongside a bed and connected by the adjustable attachment. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same, showing the inner door of the crib body let down to enable the child to be moved from the bed into the crib or vice versa. Fig. 3 is a erspective view of one set of the adjustab e bearings for pivotally mounting the crib body upon its supporting frame. Fig. 4 is a view in end elevation of the bearing socket and bearinglug disposed therein, the lug appearing in cross-sect1on.
Referring now more particularly to the ed or vice versa without securing drawings, the numeral 1 designates the crib body and 2 its su o'rti'ng frame. The crib body 1 is preferab) y made of metal and of openwork construction, but may be made of any other suitable material, and is of oblong rectangular form, and provided at one or Vboth sides with a swinging door or let-down section 3, connected at its lower edge to the per edge of the side 4 by hinges or pivots 5. The sides 4 are considerably shorter than the end portions 6 ofthe crib body, but form therewith at the base of the body, a chamber of s'uiiicient size to receive the bedding. The spaces between the top of 'the crib at the sides and the side pieces 4 are closed by the doors 3, whichfmay be fastened in closed position in any preferred manner. As shown in the present instance, the end pieces `of each side 3 are rovided `with upwardly projecting keeper ugs 7, while the end portions 6 of the body are formed with upward extensions 8 to which are pivotally connected looped catches or fasteners 9 adapted to be swung down into engagement lwith said lugs 7 to secure the sides 3 in closed position.
The crib supporting frame 2 consists of a pair of arched feet or base pieces 10 mounted upon casters 11 and connected by a tie rod or bar 12. From the central portions of the base pieces 10 rise standards 13 which are connected at their upper ends by a rod 14, thus completing the frame structure. Said structure is preferably made, as shown, of metallic rods or tubes, and may vary in form or ornamentation. The crib body 1 is detachably supported upon the frame 2 by adjustable bearings upon which said body is adapted to be rocked. These bearings comprise tubular bearing members 15 slidably fitted upon the posts 13 and provided with set screws 16 for them in adjusted position at any elevation. Formed upon the respective bearing members 15 are bearing sockets 17, which project inwardly beyond the standards 2 and are open at their outer ends and at the top, as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4. The end pieces 6 of the crib body 1 are provided with coacting bearing members 17, suitably iixed thereon, `from which extend trunnions or bearing lugs 18, which are adapted to iit within the coacting bearing sockets 17. The trunnions or bearing lugs are relatively narrower than the chambers of the sockets 17 and are of triangular form in cross-section, their sides converging to a point at the base to form a reduced bearing surface 19 which rests upon the bottom wall of the socket 17. By this construction, it Will be seen that the crib body may be detached from its supporting frame by simply lifting the body until the trunnions 18 are moved out of engagement with the sockets 17, and when the crib body is in operative position it is adapted to be oscillated or rocked in a transverse direction by the capability of the trunnions 18 oscillating laterally in the socket 17.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that the invention provides a crib structure which may be readily transported from place to place and moved with convenience from one part to another of a room, and also arranged longitudinally at either side of a bedstead 20 and adjusted longitudinally of the same to position the crib body at any required distance from the headboard of the bed. When the crib is thus supported, the inner side door 3 may be let down until it rests u on the upper surface of the bed 2O thus al owing the child to be moved from the crib to the bed or from the bed to the crib without liability of injury. Also when the sides 3 are closed, the crib may be conveniently rocked by the occupant of the bed. By means of the adjustable bearings, the crib body may be supported at any desired elevation for use in connection with bedsteads varying in height above the 'floor level, thus allowing the door in the side of the crib to rest upon the mattress or bedding of the bed 2O in a horizontal position and hold the crib body against movement during the transferral of the infant. ln order to prevent liability of shifting of the crib or movement thereof away from the bed while the crib body is being rocked, means for connecting the crib with the bedstead 20 may be employed. In the present instance, a connecting arm 21 is shown which is provided at one end with a sleeve 22 slidably engaging the rod 14 ofthe frame 2 and adapted to be fastened in adjusted position thereon by a set screw 23. rThe other end of said arm 21 carries a clip 24 to engage the side of the headboard or rail 25 of the bedstead and provided with a set screw 26 to secure it in adjusted position. Upon the clip is formed a boss 27 having a socket to receive the end of the rod 21 and provided with a set screw l 28 to fasten the same in osition. By means of this attachment it Wi be apparmt that the crib may be held in fixed relation to the bedstead 20, and adjusted to dierent points along the length of the same relative to the headboard 25 by the sliding connection of the sleeve 22 with the rod 14.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A crib comprising a frame having an upper longitudinal bar, a crib body supported by the frame, and a device connected with the bar and adapted to be connected with the head of a bedstead for holding the crib in 'fixed relation to the bedstead.
2. A cribl comprising a supporting frame having an upper longitudinal bar, a crib body pivotally mounted Within said frame, and means for connecting the frame with the frame oi' a bedstead, said means being adjustably connected with said longitudinal bar.
3. A crib comprising a supporting frame having an upper longitudinal bar, a crib body pivotally supported to rock upon the frame, and an arm provided with a bracket to engage a bedstead and slidably connected with sai bar to permit adjustment of the crib frame longitudinally of the bedstead.
1i. A crib comprising a supporting frame, a crib body carried thereby, an arm provided with a member to engage the frame of the bedstead, and means adjustablyconnecting said arm with the crib frame, whereby the latter may be held in 'fixed position relative to the bed at different distances from the headboard thereof.
5. A crib comprising a supporting frame having end standards connected by an upper longitudinal bar, open bearing brackets slidably mounted on said standards and provided With means for securing them in adjusted position, a crib body having trunnions iitting within said open bearing brackets, and a fastening member adapted to engage the frame of a bedstead and adjustably connected with said upper longitudinal bar.
