Description

A. R. .ERWIN.
ADJUSTABLE TRACE CONNECTOR.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 9, 1908 Patented Jan. 5, V1909.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIOE.
AUGUSTIN REESE ERWIN, OF PILOT POINT, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM D. BURKS AND JOSEPH B. BURKS, OF PILOT POINT, TEXAS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 5, 1999.
Application filed July 9, 190B. Serial No. 442,747.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUSTIN R. ERWIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pilot Point, in the county of Denton and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Trace-Connectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in adjustable trace connector, and the object is to provide means whereby it is capable of adjustment on the hame and can be readily locked in position on the hame.
The invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings-Figure 1 is a view in side elevation; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the trace connector.
A represents the hame, and B is the metal plate or adjustable trace connector. The trace connector is provided with a hook 1 at one end, and the other end 2 is adapted to curve or conform to the shape of a hame, and the eXtreme end 3 of the plate is bent at right angles to the main portion and is received on the underside of the hame. On the portion 2 of the plate inclined slots 3, 3 are formed, which slots are enlarged at their lower ends. On the hame pins or screws 4, 4 are formed at predetermined intervals, to
ywhich the trace connector is attached. The
slots 3 are received over the different pins and by the inclined slots the trace connector is locked in position by the plate being slid or forced downwardly after the plate has been attached or the pins have been received in the slots 3. Between the member 2 of the plate and the end of the hook member 1 a slot 5 is formed, which forms the o ening for the connection of the hook 1 wit the tug. On the member 1 and near the member 2 slots 6 and 7 are formed, in which the link 8 is received. The link 8 is laced in the slot 7 when it is desired to lock t e trace connector in position, as the link will bear against one side of the hame so that it is impossible for the trace connector to slip or become unfastened from the pins on the hame, and when it is desired to adjust the trace connector the link 8 is placed in the slot 6, where it is held and the trace connector can then be removed from the pins on the hame and placed in any position desired upon any of the other pins. After this has been done the link 8 is again placed in the slot 7. The inclined slots acting as a locking means tend to prevent any movement of the trace connector after the link has been placed in the slot 6. If it should be possible that any play was allowed to the slots and pins the hookend 3 would prevent the trace connector from becoming disengaged from the hame, as it would only be possible for a slight play, if any at all, after the link 8 had been placed in the slot 7. Connected to the link 8 is a link 9 to which is connected the breast strap (not shown).
It is evident that slight changes might be made in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the s irit and scope of my invention, and hence do not wish to be limited to the exact construction herein set forth, but:
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a hame having pins thereon, of an adjustable trace connector having slots therein certain of which are adapted to receive the pins therein, a hook on the trace connector, and a link adapted to be received in a slot in the trace connector for locking it upon the hame.
2. The combination with a hame having pins thereon, of an adjustable trace connector conforming to the shape of the hame and having inclined slots therein adapted to receive pins on the hame, a hook formed on the trace connector, a link connected to the trace connector for locking it upon the hame, and a ring connected to the link.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
AUGUSTIN REESE ERWIN.
