Be it known that I, HERMAN l. S'roTTUM a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Advertising Devices, of wlnch the following is a specification.

My invention relates' to advertising dev-ices and particularly to that class characterized by a fixed frame for removably holding a plurality of advertising cards.

The object of my invention is to provide a frame adapted to be permanently fixed, and provided with a mirror and equipped with a l plurality of suitable pockets or spaces sur rounding the mirror for holding advertising cards. A

The device is especially adapted to be secured to the ceiling in a barber shop above the chair, where it will Lbe readily seen, and one of the objects of my invention is to provide a device of this character in which the advertising cards may be readily and quickly placed, or removed without removing or disturbing any portion od the device.

A further object of my invention is to provide a device as mentioned, which shall be of neat appearance, durable and of low cost to manufacture.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a face view of an advertising device embodying my invention in its referred form, Fig. 2 is a section on the ine ol' Fig. 1 illustrating the device in position against the ceiling, Fig. 3 is a similar view on the line l/-y of Fi f. 1, Fig. 4 isl an enlarged detail sect-ion on the line z-z of Fig. 1, Fig. 5 is a detail plan view of one of the corners, Fig. 6 is a face view of a modified form of the device, and Fig. 7 is a section on the line lw-w of Fig. 6, and Fig. 8 is a detail plan view.

In carrying out my invention I may form the device with a wooden or metal frame, the latter being preferred, and in Figs. 1 to 5 I have illustrated the referred form, and in Figs. 6 to 8 the mo( ified form or wooden frame. Referring now to Figs. 1 to 5 inclusive, it will be seen that the device is formed of a pair of rectangular frames of different sizes and arranged one within the other. These are connected at the corners by ornamental metal plates which afford means for readily securing the device to a ceiling. Within the inner frame is arranged a mirror and the spaces between the inner and outer frames intermediate of the ornamental corner members are arranged to hold advertising cards. Iv prefer that the panels for holding the cards shall be provided with an ordinary transparent glass and that the cards be arranged above the same, although the glass may be omitted if desired.

The device is so arranged that the cards may be inserted or removed from the edge without disturbing the device or any of its parts.

These are illustrated as being rectangular in form and shall be so described herein, although it is obvious that it may be of any desired configuration. As illustrated in the drawings the frame 1 is formed of the four strips 3 formed of sheet metal and suitably connected at the corners as by soldering. Each strip 3 is formed of a separate piece of sheet metal bent into the forni shown which comprises a substantialliv rectangular' head or beading 4 forming the frame proper, and the vertical flanges 5 formed by the parallel edges of the strip. The flanges 5 are centrally disposed upon the upper face of the beading 4 forming the shoulders 6 and 7. Upon the shoulders 6 rest the mirror 8 provided With a suitable bac-king 9.

The outer frame is composed of the four similar strips 10, each formed of a single strip of sheet metal bent into the required sha e and connected in a manner similar t0 t e strips 3. Each strip is bent to form a shoulder 11 on its inner side and in the same plane with the shoulder 7. T o this end one edge of the strip is arranged horizontally as shown in Fig. 4 to form said shoulder and is then bent downwardly as at 12, outwardly as at 13 and upwardly as at 14. to form a head or beading. The portion 14, forming the outer edge of the trame extends somewhat above the level of the shoulder 11, but not quite as high as the flanges 5. It is then turned inwardly as at 15 and downwardly as at 16 forming a vertically disposed shoulder 17. To secure the frames 1 and 2 together, each corner of the device is provided with an ornamental plate 18 which rests between the flanges 5 and the shoulders 17 and is secured as b soldering to the shoulders 7 and 11 of the trames respectively. In Figs. 6 to 8 I have illustrated a iiiodihed forni of my invention. As shown tl'icrein the inner and outer frames 1 and 2 respectively are formed of wooden beading having their adjacent. faces grooved forming the shoulders 7 and l1 to receive the advertising cards 223. The inner and outer frames are connected by the wooden members 18 which extend continuously around the device forming a backing for the cards which are inserted from the iront or underl'ace oi' the device when it is in position.
