To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, REBEOGA K. MORRIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fresno, in the county of Fresno and State of California, have invented a new and useful Bandage, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to bandages for use in the treatment of sore throat and other inflammation of the glands and membranes of the throat and neck and its object is to provide a light device of this characterwhich can be comfortably worn and which is so shaped as to be capable of holdin poultices or other applications firmly upon t e neck and behind the cars so that all of the glands ordinarily subject to inflammation can be covered thereby.

A further object is to provide a bandage which can be adjusted to necks of different sizes and secured in position in a simple and efficient manner, the structure of the band being such that it will not fold or roll after being laced in position but will instead be proper y supported throughout its Width.

A further object is to so construct the bandage that the poultice or other a plication used will not run over the edges tliereof.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings is shown the preferred form of the invention.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference, 1 designates the body of the band'- age the upper edge thereofbeing concaved as indicated at 2 and merging into rounded peaks or projections 3, those portions of the upper edge of the body which are located beyond the peaks 3 being extended downward along diverging lines and merging into the upper edges of tongues 4 and 5 which may be 0 any desired length, the tongue 5 being provided with a transverse slot 6 at its inner end.

Fig.2 is a perspective view 7 of the bandage as it appears when secured This slot is designed, when the bandage is folded, to receive the tongue 4. The lower edge of the body 1 may be slightly curved inwardly from end to end as indicated at 7 and extending transversely of the body from this edge 7 to the peaks 3 are flexible ribs 8 of bone or other suitable material, said ribs being disposed within casings 9 preferably formed of chamois strips sewed or otherwise secured to the bandage. These ribs serve to hold the body 1 properly extended transversely so that when the bandage is applied the same will not fold or roll from its upper to its lower edges but will fit snugly about the neck under all conditions. A retaining strip 10 of any suitable flexible material is secured to the edges of the body and extends inwardly therefrom, said strip forming a marginal pocket into which the poultice or other app ication is designed to fit and thus be prevented from overrunning the edges of the body.

When it is desired to use the bandage herein described the same is opened out as shown in Fig. 1 and the material to be applied, which for exam 1e might be antiphlogistin, is placed upon the body so as to be surrounded by the stri 10. The bandage is then placed about t e neck with the peaks 3 extending back of the ears of the patient and the concaved edge 2 extending under the chin and jaws. The tongue 4 is then inserted through the slot 6 and the two tongues 4 and 5 drawn across the front of the bandage until said bandage has been pulled sufliciently tight after which the two tongues can be secured together by means of a safety pin or any other suitable fastening device. It will be seen that any spreading of the poultice produced by the compression thereof will cause the same to enter into the marginal pocket produced by strip 10 and therefore none of the poultice will overrun the edge of the bandage and come into contact with the clothing.
