AIPPLIGATION FILED NOV. 4,1908.

WILLIAM H. MERRILL, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
VENEREAL BAG.
Specification of Letters Latent.
Application filed November 4, 1908.
Patented Jan. 16,1912.
Serial No. 461,088.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. MERRILL, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Venereal Bags, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
Myinvention relates to a venereal bag, or pouch, which is adapted to receive and cover the penis after certain treatments and op erations, and my object is to provide a' simple inexpensive bag, or pouch, which is easily placed in position for use, and which is readily adjusted and oifers no inconvenience to the wearer.
To the above purposes my invention consists in certain features of novelty hereinafter shown, described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bag of my improved construction. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the bag in the position it assumes while in use.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a bag, or pouch, made of soft flexible fabric, the upper end of which is open, and one of the sides, at the upper end of the bag, is extended above the other, as designated by 2. Formed in the extended upper end are slots 3 which are placed at points opposite the upper margin of the shorter side of the bag and are removed laterally from the side margins of the extended side to aline with the side margins of the shorter side which, as shown, is of considerably less width than the extended side. Secured to the shorter side, adjacent its top, are two tapes 4 which are arranged to be passed through said slots in a manner and for the purpose hereinafter made clear.
5 designates fastening devices in the form of small wire staples which are located near the edges of the lower end of the sack and being engaged through both thicknesses of the material thereof.
When the bag is in use it receives the penis after treatment, with the extension 2 in front, and the ends of the tape, or cord, 4,
are brought forward, passed through the open between the staples 5, and this opening may be temporarily closed by means of a small safety pin or similar device.
My improved bag is of particular advantage where medicated bougies are used in the treatment of certain venereal diseases, and if desired, the lower end of the bag may be filled with absorbent cotton or the like for the purpose of catching and absorbing any discharge from the diseased parts.
The bag also acts as a covering and retainer for bandages and the like which are placed on the penis after operation and dressing.
I claim,-
In a device of the class described, a pouch comprising front and back sections, the front section having greater length than the back section and the uppermost end of the back section being of less width than the width of the upper end of the front section, there being slots formed in the front section opposite the upper end of the back section and spaced apart a distance equal to the width of the top edge of the back section, and tapes secured to the upper end of the back section, for the purposes stated.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM H. MERRILL.
