JOHN H. HART, OF PRAIRIE DEPOT, OHIO.
MEANS FOR ATTACHING HANDLES TO SATGHELS, 850.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 15, 1908.
Application filed July 14, 1908. Serial No. 443,527.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN H. I'IART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Prairie Depot, in the county of Wood and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Attaching Handles to Satchels, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and
' construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 1s a perspective view of my im-' proved fastening device, and F 2 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the handle showing fastening strap at one end dis connected from the handle.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a handle which may be made of any material and either integral with or secured to each end of the handle is a strap B having a socket member C fastened in an aperture therein. D designates a metallic hook which is held to the handle by means of a rivet E, which rivet has a beaded end F adapted to spring into said socket member and securely lock the strap and beaded end together and thereby hold the strap against the concaved portion of the hook D. Each end of the handle similarly equipped and each hook is adapted to engage a ring fastened upon the satchel, thereby relieving the strap of wear intermediate the ring and the handle. The fasteners are of the usual form, commonly known as glove fasteners, and one end of the strap is detached by simply pulling upon the strap with suilicientforce to cause the socket member to be drawn away from said beaded end of the rivet.
By the provision of a fastening means as shown and'described, a simple and eflicient device is afforded whereby handles may be readily detached from and applied to a satchel or, in the event of the ordinary fixed connection between the strap and satchel breaking, a handle equipped with my improved fastening means may be readily substituted therefor.
Vl hat I claim to be new is In combination with a handle for satchels, a strap projecting from each endof the handle, a metallic socket upon each strap, a plate, a rivet fastening said plate to the handle and provided with a beaded end, one end ofsaid plate being bent to form a hook which is convexed upon its inner face and concaved upon its outer face, said strap adapted to engage the concaved portion of the hook when the socket is engaged by said beaded end of the rivet, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
' JOHN H. HART.
