IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,942, dated September 12, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WARREN A. HOWARD, of Dugway, in the county of Oswego and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Door-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, ref erence being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in Which- Figure lrepresents my improved door-fastener as arranged for fastening a door. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the same as arranged for carrying.

My invention relates to portable door-fasteners, which may be carried in the pocket and applied on the inside of a chamber; and consists in improving this class of devices, as hereinafter fully described and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
A is the short bar, which is made with a claw, al, upon its inner end, and a shoulder, a?, upon its outer end. The bar A has a transverse hole formed through its outer end to receive the pin B for fastening the door, and with a hole through the claw al and shoulder a2 formed longitudinally 'claw al into the casing. The pin B is then passed through the transverse hole in the outer or shouldered end of the bar A, so that one end may overlap the casing and the other end may overlap the door, as shown in Fig. l, thus fastening the door securely in such a way that it cannot be unfastened from the outside, and cannot be forced open except by tearing away the casing in which the claw al is embedded.
Having thus described my invention, I claim. as new and desire to 'secure by Letters Patent- The bar A with claw al, having a hole between the prongs thereof, combined with a shoulder, a2, perforated in line therewith, and also perforated at right angles to the bar to hold the bolt of a portable door-fastening, as specified.
