Description
R. N. BROWN.
QASH CORD FASTENER.
, Patented May 27, 1884.
' (No Model.)
A v w W INVENTUR WITNESSES llNiTEn STATES PATENT @FFTQFQ ROSWELL N. BROW'N, OF HOOSIOK FALLS, NEW YORK.
SASH-CORD FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 299,199, dated May 27, 1884. Application filcd January 7, 1884. (No model.)
To ail whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, RosWnLL N. BROWN, of the village of Hoosick Falls, county of Reusselaer, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in At tachments for Sasl1-Oords for XVindows; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which Figure l is a perspective of the attachment .with the. cord in place. Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of a portion of the sash-stile and the cord and its fastening inserted therein. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal cross-section on the line a: a2, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of Fig. 2 with the cord removed. Fig. 5 is a view in perspective of the cord-holder with the cord removed.
Similarlctters of reference refer to the same parts in the several figures.
The nature and object of the invention is to furnish a cheap attachment of sash-cord to window-sash, when weights are used to balance the weight of the sash, and one that will not wear out the cord where it is attached to the sash.
A represents a portion of the saslrstile, and into the edge of this is inserted by a mortise a metal piece, B, made with a curved end and a shank or neck, B. This shank affords protection for the cord and prevents the cordholder from turning. This piece is furnished with a score to receive the cord, and also a fixed central boss, 6. The score is formed between the outer rim of B and the fixed center. Through this fixed centerb is a hole, I), through which is passed a screw, to hold the attachment and cord in place in the stile, as shown The cord leads from the circular portion along the score in the shank portion B, and through a groove cut in the stile tothe top of the rail,
and thence over the pulley, to receive the weight. In cases where the sash is very heavy it may be necessary to hold the cord more firmly than it will be held by its being curved around the circular portion of the holder. For this purpose I furnish the bottom of the score with one or more points, 0, which will pierce the cord, and thus make its slipping out impossible.
The cord-holder is inserted into the edge of the stile in such a way as to cover the cord, the bottom of the mortise in the stile forming one side of the cavity in which the cord is held and against which it is clamped.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isp 1. A sash-cord holder comprising a circular portion having a circular groove and a central boss therein, and a rectangular portion, grooved also, for the reception of a cord, substantially as described.
2. A sash-cord holder having a rectangular grooved part, B, a circular-part, B, provided with a circular groove, and points 0, projecting therein, and a central boss, I), provided with a central perforation for the passage of ascrew, whereby the device is secured to a window stile, substantially as described.
