Description

SPEGTAGLE CASE. No. 275,795. Patented Apr. 10,1883.

JOSEPH O. WATTS, OF LINEVILLE, IOWA.
SPECTACLE-CAS E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 275,795, dated April 10, 1883.
Application filed January 13, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH O. WATTS, of Lineville, Iowa, have inventeda new and useful Improvement in Cases for Spectacles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of-this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a spectaclecase with my improvement attached, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same.
The object of my invention is to secure the spectacle-case to the pocket, so as to avoid the possibility of loss from the case dropping out while the person maybe stooping; and it consists of the combination of devices hereinafter explained and claimed.
Itis a well-recognized fact that cases for 'spectacles are very liable to slip from the pocket whenever the body of the person is in a stooping position, and the result is the loss of the spectacles. To overcome this difliculty is the purpose of my present invention.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the exact mauner in which I have carried it out.
In the drawings, A represents an ordinary case for spectacles, on which I secure the long narrow plate B, attached at each end. The length of this plate depends upon the amount of adjustability desired for the sliding clasp O, which is attached to the plate B by means of the loop D, fitting snugly around the plate. The clasp (3 may he of any well-known construction. If the pocket be deep or shallow, the pocket will adjust itself accordingly by slipping upon the plate B and allowing the case to pass down any desired depth into the pocket. When the case is placed in the pocket, it is only necessary to spring open the clasp and catch the edge of the pocket between its teeth.
It is evident from this description that when the case is in the pocket, and thus clasped, all danger of loss is removed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claimas new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The plate B and adjustable clasp G, in combination with the case A, all constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
JOSEPH OSCAR WATTS.
