JOSEPH H. KEVORKIAN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DISPLAY-HOLDER FOR CARDS OR ANALOGOUS ARTICLES.
Application filed January 31, 1908.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 15, 1908.
Serial No. 413,693.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosEPH H. KEVOR- KIAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Holders for Cards or Analogous Articles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to holders for the display of cards or analogous articles.
The principal objects of my invention are first, to provide a readily adjustable wire holder for postal cards or analogous articles in which the detachable jointed sections constituting the holder are adapted to telescope or nest with each other for shipping or carriage in compact form and for readily readjusting for o erative use; and second to arrange the te escoping and nesting sections constituting the holder so that when eX- tended into operative relationship to each other the base of each section will assume a horizontal plane with a projecting straight ledge for the reception and holding of a pack of cards or other articles in position and with the upper ends of the holder arranged to flare at an angle to the vertical members of the holder in a downward direction and extending inwards with inturned projecting ends towards each other to hold to lace the upper ortions of the cards or the ike within the base of the skeleton holder.
My invention stated in general terms, consists of a telescoping and nesting wire holder for cards or analogous articles constructively arranged as hereinafter described, illustrated in the drawings, and then claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevational view of two sections of a series of sections of a telescoping and nesting wire card holder of my resent invention embodying the particular eatures of novelty of my said invention over such types of holders in the prior art, for example as disclosed by Letters Patent No. 481,167 ofAugust 23rd, 1892, No. 816,904, of April 3rd, 1906, and No. 844,279 of February 12th, 1907 the said view showing the manner of arranging the cards as indicated in dotted outline in their length crosswise in one of the sections of the holder. Fig. 2 is an end elevational View of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the sections of the wire holder of Fig. 1, shown detached from a complemental member of the series which jointed to each other constitute the said holder and Fig. 4 is a front elevational view of a slightly modified form of wire card holder, showing how the cards are supported in a lengthwise position therein.
Referring to the drawings, 5 represents one section of a series constituting the holder, as fully illustrated in Figs. 1 and 4. Each section consists of two uprights or wires 6 and 7, formed at the base wlth curved niches 8 and 9, respectively terminating in bottom extensions 10 and 11, which are joined to each other by a straight horizontal portion 62, forming thereby a straight ledge against which may rest a pack of cards as will be readily understood from Fig. 3, due to such arrangement of the device, as illustrated therein. The upper portions of the uprights or wires 6 and 7, are outwardly bent forming notches 13 and 14, terminating in arms 15 and 16, extending downwardly at preferably an acute angle to the uprights or wires 6 and 7, and at the bottom bent forward into straight portions 20 and 21, and terminating in inturned ends 22 and 23, extending towards each other but not beyond the vertical plane of the uprights or wires 6 and 7, in operative relation to each other, as clearly shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 4. The niches 8 and 9,v
formed in the bottom of each section 5, are adapted to engage in operative position notches 13 and 14, of the upper portions of a complementally shaped section 5, of either of the two types of holders as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, in their operative positions adapted to receive and safely hold packs of cards exposing to view the outermost card of each pack, for removing singly or collectively the same therefrom.
The uppermost section of the holder is provided with a detachable inverted V or other shape supporting hook 17, formed with curved ends 18 and 19, for engagin in notches 13 and 14, of a section of the ho der, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 4.
I am aware that card and analogous holders have been made in various forms in the past, among them of the types such as hereinbefore recited, but my invention differs therefrom in the constructive arrangement of the sections, whereby in a complete manner the several sections constituting the holder can be readily and quickly slid into a nested condition by practically telescoping with each other for shipping or carrying the said holder in a compact form and as well as permitting of the shifting of the several telescoped and nested sections of the holder readily again into an o erative relation to each other, as will be fu ly appreciated and understood from Figs. 1 and 4. The only difierence between the form of holder of Fig. 4, over that of Fig. l, is, that the cards are adapted in the one instance to be placed in the sections of the holder lengthwise thereof, while in the other they are placed crosswise of their length.
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A card-holder, comprising a series of sections, the uprights or vertical wires being bent to form niches at the base, extensions formed beyond said niches and in a straight line and upturned to form an integral horizontal ledge and the upper portions of the uprights or wires being bent to form notches, downwardly extending arms formed beyond said notches and at an acute angle to said uprights or wires and at the bottom bent forward into straight portions terminating in inturned ends extending toward each other but not beyond said uprights or wires so as to form supports for portions of cards in each section of said holder.
2. A card-holder, composed of a series of sections, each consisting of vertical wires being bent to form niches at the top, angular projections formed beyond said niches and bent forward and inturned to form bearings for portions of cards and the wires at the bottom bent to form niches respectively terminating in bottom extensions joined to each other by a straight horizontal portion or ledge for supporting cards in position so as to be readily either singly or collectively removed therefrom.
3. A card-holder, consisting of a series of sections, each having uprights bent to form niches at the bottom and extensions formed beyond said niches to form a straight horizontal portion or ledge and at the top being bent to form notches, arms formed beyond said notches and terminating in straight portions provided with ends extending towards each other but not beyond the uprights of said sections so that said sections of the holder can be readily telescopcd or nested together.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOSEPH H. KEVORKIAN.
