Description
G.l A. PETERSON.
BASE BALL GLOVE.
APPLICATION IILED .APIL 10, 1908.
Patented Dec.8,1908.
ud a n z o H G UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CASPER. A. PETERSON, OF DEMMON, MICHIGAN.
EASE-BALL GLOVE.
To all whom 't may concern:
Be it known that I, CASPER. A. PETERSON, a citizen of the-United States, residing at Demmon, in the county of Houghton and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Base-Ball Gloves, lof which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to base ball gloves or mitts, and the object of the invention is to provide a glove with a web positioned .between the fingers-of the love whereby a lar e area is afforded a ayer catching a bal and whereby the liability of injuring the fingers of the player is greatly lessened.
A still further ob'ect of the invention is to provide a base ball glove with a web positioned away from the point'of juncture ofthe fingers of the glove whereby a small resistance of air will be met as the player manipulates the glove through the air in the act of catching or stopping a ball.
To these ends the invention resides in the novel construction of base ball gloves, hereinafter fully described and claimed. i
The accompanyin drawing illustrates an.
ordinary base .ball g ove provided with my im rovement.
n the drawing the numeral 1 desi ates an ordinary base ball glove. This g ove 1 may be padded as illustrated in the drawing and is adapted to have its fingers 2 connected by a flexible web 3. The web 3 may be of any desired or preferred material, and may be attached to the fingers of the glove in any desired manner. The webs 3 are adapted to be connected to the fingers 2 of the glove at a suitable distance away from the oint of connection of the fingers with the ody of the glove so as to provide air spaces 4, between the meeting oints of the fingersk and the ed e of the we s 3. The opposite ends ofthe we s 3 terminate with the ends of the fingers and thumb of the glove, and are preferably scalloped or in cut as illustrated in the drawlng.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led April 10, 1908. Serial No. 426,338.
Patented Dec. s, 190s.
By this construction it will be readily seen that I have provided an attachment for bas'e ball gloves which not only enables the player to catch or stop a ball easily butA also provides air passages between the fingers and the point of juncture ofthe fingers whereby a small resistance is offered as the player swings the glove throu h the air when catching or stopping a ba It will be further noted that by providing the outer edges of the webs with scallops or incutsgno projecting portion of the web is presented to interfere with the manipulation of the player in the act of catching a ball whether the n ers be folded together on expanded. It wi be still further seen that by providing a base ball love with my improvement danger to the player is greatly reduced as the webs prevent the fingers being separated from each other as would occur should a ball. contact with one of th`e fingers of an ordinary glove.
Havin thus fully described the-invention what is c aimed as new is:
1. A base ball glove having a flexible web between its iingers and thumb, said web being connected with each of the adjoining fingers and terminating between the fingers away from their point of connection with the body of the glove 'to provide air passages whereby a partial resistance to the air is afforded as the glove is mani ulated.
2. A base ball glove having a flexible web between its fingers and thumb, said web being scalloped at its upper connection with the fingers and thumb of the glove, and said web being connected with each of the adjoining fingers of the glove and terminating between the fingers away from their point of connection with the bod of the glove.
In testimony whereof aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
" CASPER A. PETERSON.
