UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. JACKSON, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 672,099, dated April 16, 1901.
Application filed December 20, 1900. S i l No. 40,475. (No model.)
To add whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. JACKSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to toys; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which involves the principle of a string or cord controlled ball and which is adapted to be connected with one of the fingers of the hand; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a toy constructed as hereinafter described.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable characters, said drawing consistin g of a single view showing my improved toy and the method of connectingit with the hand.
In the practice of my invention I provide a ring A, which is adapted to be connected with one of the fingers of the hand, and this ring is provided at one side with an eyelet B, through which is passed a cord 0, which is provided at each end with a ball D. The balls D may be made of Wood, rubber, or any suitable material, and the cord is preferably non-elastic; but said cord may be elastic, if desired.
In the operation of the device the ring A is placed on one of the fingers of the hand and one of the balls is thrown from the operator and the other ball is drawn into the palm of the hand, as will be readily understood. The second ball may then be thrown and the first ball will be drawn back into the hand by the second, as will also be readily understood.
draw the first ball thrown backwardly when the second ball strikes the hand, and this operation may also be repeated, as above described. In either event, when one of the balls is thrown the other is drawn into the palm of the hand and caught, and this operation of throwing one ball and catching the other will be substantially the same whether the cord is elastic or non-elastic.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A toy comprising a ring adapted to be placed upon one of the fingers of the hand, said ring being provided at one side with an eyelet and a cord passed through said eyelet and provided at each end with a ball substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 11th day of December, 1900.
WILLIAM H. JACKSON.
