thereof.
A further object of the invention is to'proe vide an envelop having means for facilitating the unsealing and opening thereof for the purpose of removing its contents.
ln the drawings :-F igure l is a perspective view of the invention, showing the envelop sealedl Fig. 2 is a'rear elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation, showing 4the envelop in an open position, 'and Fig, 4 is a vertical sectional v1ew of the envelop, taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
Similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the front ofthe envelop having side flaps 2-2a, which are adapted to be folded rearwardly and to engage, by mucilage or other adhesive, the ,back 3 of the envelop. Integral with the front '1 is the to flap 4 adapted to back 3 and thereby close the opening 5 of the envelop. The to flap 4 is provided with side 'flaps 6-6 whic are integral with the Hans 2--2el of the front 1, andare adapted to fold rearwardly and to engage by an adhesive, the rear of the flap, and in this manner, form a reinforcing strip. The top flap is further provided with a rearwardly folded horizontal or top strip 7, adapted to be secured to said flap by an adhesive, and also, to form a guideway 8. Anopening 9 is provided in the flap 2a and is lon cated below the opening 5, at a point which substantially registers with the guideway 8 when the top flap 4 is folded. Passing through this opening 9, and preferably1extending to the bottom of the envelop 1s a tape, cord or'any other suitable means 10, which is arranged under the side flap 2, and is retained therein by glue or any suitable adhesive. This tape or cord 10 extends from the opening 9 to the opening 8a of the guideway 8 of thetop flap 4, and thence through said guideway and out through the opening 8b. A sealing device 1l, preferably made of paper and covered by an adhesive on one side, is rovided with an opening 11 by means of w 'ch the free end of the cord or tape is secured. To further seal the envelop,
a second seal is employed having one end-12 thereof secured to the back 3 of the envelop and the other end 12a free so as to permit of sealing the top flap 4. From the foregoing, it will be readily a parent that to close and seal the envelop, t e
- operator first folds the top flap rearwardly,
and then, by using the seal 11 as a fingerpiece, draws Athe tape orl cord 10 until tight, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of' the drawings. Then, the operator still keeping the tape or cord taut, secures the seal 11 to the front 1 ,of the envelop, as shown by reference to Fig. l of the drawings. A stamp 14. is then secured to the envelop over the tape or cord 10, thereby sealing the cord or tape. The free end 12E of the rear seal is then secured to the top flap 4 of the envelop, thereby sea-lin f the said flap to the envelop. Thus, it wil be readily seen, that the stamp acts asa check against fraudulent opening of the envelop, because to open the same, the seal 11 has to be detached and the stamp broken by movement of the cord or tape l0. The operator then inserts his (or her) thumb under the top ila-p 4 at the left hand corner of the envelop. The thumb is then passed along under said flap, breaking the seal 12 and then continucd until the right hand corner of the envelop the thumb and foreiinger, it can quickly be raised to an upright position, thereby leaving the envelop open to extract the contents.
Changes in the form, size, proportion and the minor details of construction, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made without departing from the spirit or sacriiicing the advantages of the invention.
