Description

@initrd lteres ROBERT V. JONES,.
OF CANTON, OHIO.
Lette/rs .Patent No. 90,553, dated May 25, 1869.
IMPROVED LADIES' WoK-BAsKET- The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT Y. JONES, of Canton, in the county of Stark, and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ladies Baskets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part ot' this specifica-tion, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, of which drawings- Figure l is anelevation ot my improved basket.
Figure 2 is a plan of the same. i
The nature ot' my invention consists in the combination of a basket composed of a wooden bottom and ornamental metallic border, with a metallic standard, provided with a pinor emery-ball, handle, and devices for holding spools, whereby I obtain a neat, cheap, strong, and ornamental Work-basket for ladies use.
To enable others skilled in the. art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
The basket A. B B is composed of the wooden bottom A, which can be made of any suitable form and thickness, and which has the metallic border YB B secured to its edges by screws, or other suitable devices.
This border B B is made of cast-iron, brass, or other suitable cast-metahand may be of any desired ornaf mental form, and can be cast either in a single piece of the required form and length to fitv around the bottom A, or it can be made in sections, adapted to one or more of the sides of the bottom A, and abutting against each other, as may be found most desirable.-
rlhe standard C is made of any suitable cast-metal, and is secured to the bottom A by screws, which pass through the anges a a, at the bottom ot' saidstand ard, and screw into the bottom A.
At the top of the standard C is a handle, G, of any suitable form; and below this handle is a ring, E, of any desired shape, in which is secured a pin or elueryball, F.
This ball F is made of cloth, and is filled with sawdust, or other filling suitable for a pin-ball, or with emery, when used as an emery-ball.
Its size is somewhatgreater than that of the ring E, so that by squeezing it into said ring, its sides will standout on each side of said ring, as shown, and'thus the ball will be held iirmly in position under ordinary usage, but can readily be` removed, when found desirable, in an obvious manner.
The arms D D, in any desired number, may be cast on the standard C, and serve to hold spools H 1I, for thread, by means of axial spool-pins J, which pass through holes in the arms!) D and the hole in the centre of spool H, as shown; or said Varms D D may be made with a spool-pin, J, secured in each of them, `and so arranged that the spool can be slipped over said pin iu an obvious manner.
`Having thusfully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The improved ladies work-basket and spool-stand, herein described, composed of the basket A B B, constructed as specified, and the standard C, with handle G, ring E, with pin or emery-ball F, and spool-arms D D, with spool-pins J the several parts being constructed and arrangedsubstantially as and for the purpose specified.
As evidence that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, in the presence of two witnesses, this 19th day of February, A. D. 1869.
Witnesses: R. Y. JONES.
D. HAMMOND, JOB ABBOTT.
