R. RAYMOND.

APPLICATION FILED MAY 6, 1908.
Patented Dec. 1, 1908.
we b1 moan UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
REUBEN RAYMOND, OF NAPA, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO CALIFORNIA GLOVE COMPANY;
OF NAPA, CALIFORNIA.
GLOVE.
Patented Dec. 1, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I REUBEN RAYMOND, citizen of the United States, residing at Napa, county of Napa, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to an improvement in gloves and particularly to an improvement upon my prior patent No. 531,386 dated December 25, 1894.
The invention has for an object to provide a novel and improved construction which will insure a fitting to the natural contour of the hand of the crotch between the thumb and forefinger of the glove so that no projections or points are ormed and the glove made more solid to offer less resistance to Wear than otherwise.
Another object of the invention is to provide a back thumb piece which forms part of the palm and acts as a gusset between the thumb and forefinger to conform to the shape of the hand when opened or closed thus adding to the strength of the glove and perfecting the fit thereof adjacent to the thumb.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
-In the drawing-Figure 1 is a perspective.
of the back of the glove; Fig. 2 a similar view of the front thereof; Fi 3 an elevation of the palm piece thereo Fig. 4 is a similar view of the glove back piece; Fig. ,5 a plan of the thumb back piece; and Fig. 6 is a similar view of the fourchettes.
Like numerals of reference refer to like parts in the several figures of the drawing.
The numeral 10 designates the front or alm piece of the glove which is adapted to orm the front 11 of the thumb and the fronts 12 and 13 of the index and last finger of the hand, respectively, as shown in Fig. 3. The fronts 12 and 13 also extend to the sides to meet the back piece 14 for the hand as shown in Fig. 4. This back piece is provided with the backs 15 for each of the fingers while the back piece for the thumb is shown at 16 in Fig. 5. The fourchettes for the fronts and sides of the second and third fingers are shown in Fig.6 where 17 indicates 1. A glove formed of a back that 'for the second finger and 18 for the third finger.
The palm piece 13 is secured to the back I piece 14 by a straight seam 19 at the small finger side and also by a similar straight seam 20 at. the back of the forefinger. The fourchettes 17 and 18 are secured to the back pieces 15 in the usual manner and to the palm piece at 21. The thumb back piece 16 1s seamed at its edge 22 to the edge 23 of the palm piece upon an outwardly curved line.
Across the crotch between the thumb and forefinger a seam 24 extends straight down the thumb and thence upon a compoundcurved'line to meet the seam 20 at the back.
The portion 25 of the thumb back 16 forms the rear of the thumb while the lower art 26 thereof may form a gore or quirk w ich can be adjusted by any desired means, for instance a draw string 27 threaded therethrough and having its free end held frictionall by a button 28 on the backv piece thus e ecting a proper fit at the wrist of the glove and correspondingly adjusting the thumb back to fit the hand.
It will be seen that by the use of this con-' struction or pattern the palm and back thumb piece are fitted to conform exactly to the contour of the hand and the crotch between the thumb and forefinger either when the hand is opened or closed. It also obviates the formation of any projecting points at the seams thus making a more solid glove which offers less resistance to wear. The
seam between the thumb back and palm pieces is thrown back and entirely away from contact at the crotch of the thumb.
forth its merits what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is iece having a straight seam at the side 0 the forefinger next the thumb, a pahn piece connected to said back piece at the small finger seam and having a thumb front, and a thumb back having a seam at the front side thereof extending over its upper end, thence down-- ward to the thumb crotch,'and thence transversely to said downward line at the back of the thumb and connected to the straight back seam of the forefinger.
2. A love formed of a'back prising acks for all the fingers and having a straight seam at the side of the forefinger next the thumb, a palm piece connected to said back piece at the small finger seam and having a thumb and small fin er front, fourchettes forming fronts for t e middle fingers, and a thumb back seamed at one side to the forefinger and having a seam at the front side thereof extending over its upper end, thencedownward to the thumb crotch, and thence transversely upon a comound curve from said downward line' at the back of the thumb and connected to the straight back seam of the forefinger.
iece com) v 3. A love formed of a, back Ipiece having a straig t seam at the side of t e forefinger next the thumb, a palm iece connected to said back piece at the smafi having a thumb front, a thumb back having a seam at the front side thereof extending over its upper end, thence downward to the thumb crotch, and thence transversely'to said downward line at the back of the thumb and connected to the straight back seam of the forefinger, and means for adjust-ing said thumb back at the wrist line thereof.
In testimon whereof I aflix my signature in presence '0 two witnesses.
REUBEN RAYMOND.
