Description

lvllntrd tant @licheni @Wm EDWARD WIARD, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
Letters Patent N o. 90,475, dated lifayj 25, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLOWS. l
T115- Schedule referred to 1n these Letters Patent and making put of the same.
,Figure 1 representseslde view of my inlproved plow; and
Figure 2 is a perspective Viewl 0f the plowshare.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new plow, in which the share is composed of three parts, in such manner that if any one of the parts become destroyed, by wear or otherwise, it can be readily replaced without requiring the whole share to be renewed.
The invention consists chieiiy in forming a standard and landside support on the mould-board of the plow, so that the landside can, by means of but one bolt, be securely fastened to the same. rlhe invent-ion also consists in forming a recess on the under side of the detachable point, so that the saine can he fitted upon a projecting.;l rib ofthe mouldboard, to be securely fastened, and to have its surface flush with that of the said mould-board.
The invention further consists in forming a hook on the landside, said hook fitting over the support formed on the mould-board, to serve as a fastening-device, so that but one bolt need be used to fasten the landside.
A, in the drawing, represents a plow-beam of suitable hind.
B is the plow-standard. It is cast or formed in one piece with the mould-board C, as is clearly shown in 2.
gAs a continuation of the standard is also formed on the mould-board a flange, D, which is somewhat withdrawn from the edge of the mould-board, to allow the landside E to'be placed upon it, as shown, so that the landside` will be flush with the edge of the monld` board, as indicated in g. 1.
0n the landside is formed a. hook, a, which catches over the edge of thelian'ge, or support D, as in g. 2.
By the use of thisl hook the fastening of the landside is simplified, srlthat but one bolt, or screw b, is
- required tesecureit to tbe flanged).
The plow point Gis provided with a notch or recess on its under side, at the back end,so that it may be I'ltted over a, flange or' rib, c, projecting from the mouldboard, and be fastened by means of a bolt, d.
The handle F is fastened t the landside by a bolt, e, and rests on a. step, f, formed thereon.
The mould-board handle is secured to lugs g g, formed on the mould-board.
A brace may be put between the mould-board and landside, by heilig fitted with one end in a socket formed on the mould-board, while the other end is placed at the end of a groove or trough formed on the landside, and locked by the end of the handle F in its rear.
The flange D can be readily cast in a simple twopart flask, by receiving a slight taper, so that it could be readily withdrawn from the sand.
Having thus described myinvention,
, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The standard B, mould-board C, and recessed landside-support D, all cast in one piece, in combination with the landside E, when secured to the recessed support D by means of the hook a and single boltub, all arranged as described, for the purpose speeied.
Witnesses: EDWARD WIARD.
