APPLIOATION FILED mm2, 1908.

Specification of Letters Patent.
` Patented Nov. 17, 1.908.
-Application led January 2, 190B. Serial No. 408,982.
4To all whom t mag/concerns Be it known that I, ALv1N K. LEE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chaparal, in the county of Yavapai and Territory of Arizona, have invented a new and Improved Carrier, of which'the following is a full, clear, and enact description.
The lnvention relates to bundle carrlers,
. and-its object is to provide a new and improved carrier, more especially designed fou use on cans, pails andlike receptacles, and arranged to permitplaclng the'carrier conveniently in position on the receptacle or re-l moving it therefrom, and' to allow of folding the carrier into a comparatively small space for shipping, storing or other purposes.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the lsame, whichA will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the"accompanying drawings forming a part of this'specitication, in which similar characters of reference indicate correspondingparts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a vside elevation of the improvement as applied; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the improvement; Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse section of one of the joints, the section being on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2;
and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the supporting collar. .v
The collar A of the carrier is preferably made from a single piece of wire formed at dianietrically opposite points into alined coils A', A2, provided in their openings with bearings B,.B, preferably `in the form of eyelets, having their ends provided with outwardly-extending flanges (see Fig. 3), to
hold the bearings in position in the coils A',
A2. .'Ihe'bearings B,' B are engaded by inwardlyeextending' trunnions C', (12,. formed on the ends of a bail C. Now in using the device, the-collar' Ais slipped in position on the body of the can, pail or other receptacle v D, as plainly indicated' in 1,v and then the bail C maybe swung u .Y claim as new and l into a vertical 4 position and takenhold o by the user, to e carry the receptacle about from one place to another. By reference to Fig. 4 it will be seen that the collar A is practically rendered completely circular at its inner face, tb'
snuglyy t the body of the receptacle D, either at the enlarged upperend thereof, or under an annular shoulder formed on the receptacle, as is thecase with cans for containing paint and the like. The coils A', A2 extend outwardly from the collar A, andthe trunnions C and C2 of the bail C may be readily inserted in the coils whenever it is desired to use the device for carrying the receptacle about.
The collar shown and described is very simple and durable in construction, and can be folded into a comparatively small spacefor shipping, storing and other purposes by turning thebbail int the plane of the collar,
and the Acarrier can lbe readily applied on a receptacle or removed therefrom whenever it is desired to do so. j
The ends of the wirefrom which the collar A is formed, are formed into the 'coil A2, asclearly shown in Fig. 4",
Having thus described my invention, I desire to secure by Letters Patent.: e
l. A carrier comprising a collar made of a piece of wire formed at diametrically op# .posite' points into coils, bearings tting into the openings Aof the-said coils, and a bail having trunnions engaging the said bearings.
2. A carrier comprising a collar made of a piece of wire formed at diametrically opposite poipts into coils, bearings fitting into .the openings ofthe said coils and having their ends provided with flanges enga ing the ends of the Acoils t'o hold the bearings n position in the coils, and a bail having trunnions engagingV the said bearings..
In testimony whereof .I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of twosubscribing witnesses. i
Y ALVIN K. LEE.
AWitnesses: e
.FRANK J. FAY, GEO. FLAMMER.
