CHARLES MCOLUSKY BERRY, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CHARLES A. WHITTIER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
METHOD OF MANUFACTURING CIGARS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 10, 1908.
Application filed. February 2'7, 1906. Serial No. 303,224.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES MoCLUsKY BERRY, of Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Methods of Manufacturing Cigars, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improved method i of manufacturing cigars and its object is to plan breaks the wrapper and interferes with the draft of the cigars besides not being a plain identification.
I carry out my invention by rolling under the wrapper any suitable fibrous material of a color easily distinguishable from the gem eral color of the cigar wrapper allowing the said material to project from underneath any of the folds of said wrapper or at either end of the cigar.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cigar embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
In the above figures, the fibers A are shown projecting from the end of the cigar and covered by certain folds B of the wrapper. These fibers may be colored by a coating of gelatin or other suitable substance that will not contaminate the flavor of the tobacco.
I do not limit myself to the above method as these fibers may be sewed, pasted or pressed into the cigar wrapper.
Having thus described my invention and set forth a construction embodying the same, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The herein described method of manufacturing cigars, consisting in permanently embodying and retaining by the folds of the wrapper any identifying material, whereby said material is partially exposed and may not be removed without mutilating the cigar.
2. The herein described method of manufacturing cigars consisting of the permanently interweaving of an identifying fiber under alternate folds of the cigar wrapper.
3. As an article of manufacture, a cigar having one or more fibers permanently interwoven and partially exposed between the folds of the wrapper.
4:. As an article of manufacture, a cigar having one or more identifying fibers retained by the folds of the wrapper and projecting therefrom.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this 23 day of February A. D. 1906.
CHARLES MGCLUSKY BERRY.
