Description

No. 840,385. PATENTED JANJ, 199v. F. J. SEYFRIED.
HOLDER FOR CIGARS AND GIGARETTES.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 1, 1905.
WITNESSES: 01mm @5004 "igf AJATTORNEY THE NORRIS PETERS 90., nmsmnarau, o. c
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANZ J. SEYFRIED, OF COLOGNE, GERMANY.
HOLDER FOR CIGARS AND CIGARETTES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 1, 1907.
Application filed November 1, 1905. Serial No. 285,405.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANZ JosEF SEY- FRIED, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, residing at Cologne, Province of Rhine, Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Cigars and Cigarettes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in cigar and cigarette holders made of rolled-up paper. The holder is made of one continuous piece of paper, and the mouthpiece is integral with the holder proper, both being formed out of one strip of paper. The holder is stiflened at the pointed end portion by applying paralfi'n or the like thereto. This and a bridge within the end portion of the holder tend to preserve the original shape of same.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents the paper strip from which the holder-is formed. Fig. 2 illustrates a finished holder. Fig. 3 is a section on line A B of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a section on line C D of Fig. 2.-
Similar letters of reference denote like parts in all the figures.
The piece of paper a of which the holder is made is cut in the shape of a Inantle,' as shown in Fig. 1. The mantle has a tongue I), which projects from its upper portion 0. When rolled up, the mantle forms a blunt cone, into whose top or inner end said tongue enters and forms a bridge. This bridge extends from one side of the inner wall of the mouthpiece over to the opposite wall right in the center of said mouthpiece, as is clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4, thus preventing its compression during use. When the mantle is rolled up into the form of the cigar and cigarette holder, then the part a, forming the mouthpiece, is dipped into melted paraflin or any other equivalent and suitable material. When cold, the parafiin holds the coiled pap er permanently together, and the bridge I) greatly enhances its strength.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A cigar or cigarette holder made of one continuous strip of paper comprising the holder proper, a paraffined mouthpiece, and a strengthening cross-bridge Within said mouthpiece extending diametricallyfrom one inner wall over to the other and secured in same.
2. In a cigar or cigarette holder a paraffined mouthpiece having integral therewith a strengthening cross-brldge extending from one inner wall diametrically over to the other and secured in same.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANZ J. SEYFRIED.
