Specification or Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 10, 1908.
Application tiled April 30, 1908. Serial No. 550,233.
To all whom it may concern? Be it-known that we, FRANK BAKER' and CHESTER BAKER, citizens of the United States, residing at Dalton, inthe county of Livin ston and State'jof New York, have .invente certain new and useful Improvements in Cattle-Stanchionm'- and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact de- Y scription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which vit appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to cattle-stanchions.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will give the cattle as much freedom asis possible'without allowin them to become entirely free, and one `which will be easily and quickly set up in any place where it is desired to house the cattle.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character' which will be cheap in construction, ellicient in operation and withalneatin appearance and convenient to handle.
Withthese and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims. A.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a frontl elevation of the device attached tothe ceiling and floor of a barn, or other suitable structure, Fi 2 is a vertical section on the line 2-2 of ig. 1, and Fi 3 is an enlarged detail elevation showing t e latching device in section. g
Referring more especially to the drawin s, 1 represents the floor of the structure, an 2 the ceiling ders to which Ais attached the longitudin supporting bar 3', similar in construction to the loorpiece 4. Extending transversely of the bar 3 are the bracket arms 5,l from which depend the supportin brackets 6. These .brackets coact wit brackets 7, carried by the loorpiece 4 tosupport an oblon frame compose of end piecesv4 8, and top an bottom pieces 9, connected together at their. ends by elbows 10. The top sliding supports 11, each provided with set screws 12, adapted to hold them in any suitable osition. The top support 11 has passt rough its lower end a pin 13, to whlcha c ain 14, is connected so as to support the yoke or head stalls. These stalls are also connected at their bottom with the chain 17, to the lower .sliding piece 11.
The side pieces 15 and 16 of the stalls are preerably'of wood' and are screwed into `the metallic ends 15 and L6', the lower ones o f 4which are hinged together ais at 18, andthe ulpper ones are provided with the separate e ements of a catch 19, at their top so as to lock them to ether. In order to prevent the sides of t e stalls from falling too far apart when disen neck we provide a c ain 20, which is stretched between the two lower members 15 and 16 so as to prevent the members 15'and'16 separatin too far apart. A lurality of head sta are arranged to sli e upon the rods 9 so that a plurality' of'cattle may be secured to one frame, and be separated as far apart as is necessary.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawaged from the animals I ings, the constructioand operation of the invention will be readily understood without requirin a more extended explanation. g Various c an es in the form, proportion andthe minor be resorted to without departin from the principle or sacrificing an of t e advantages of this invention as eined in the appended claims. Having thus described our invention what we claim and desire to secureby Letters Patent is:-
1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a' frame having top and bottom members, of means slidably engaged with said members, 'and head stanc 'ons carried thereby. `2. A device pf the class described comprising slidablelstanchion supporting means and head stanchions flexibly secured thereto. 3. .ln a device of the class described, the combination of a frame having top and bottom members, stanchion supportln devices etails of construction may slidably engaged upon said top an` bottom vg e f 903,237
